It seems these are a very often modded knife because of the simplicity of them when original and i would think alot of knife guys would customize them to meet there own needs and likes...Id like to see some of your alls customized moras and/or ideas youve had.
heres my mora..nothing special but personalized. i sanded off the red painted handle and reshaped it slightly to make it more comfortable in my hand and applied linseed oil and then i knocked off the shoulder on the scandi grind and convexed it to the edge so its more of a convexed scandi now. it carves just as well as my other scandi's but with the added benefits of a full convexed blade.

Free bump since I like pictures of people modding their knives :)

Also this is how you can host pictures from your hard drive:

-Make an account at photobucket.com
-Click upload from computer and search for your picture.
-If upload is completed you can click on your picture and there are four links in yellow.
-Copy the "direct link" adress. Then on this forum click the yellow box next to your text options (like bold text and size) which says "insert image". Then paste.

The photobucket website is a bit messy to navigate in, just try different buttons.
There are other similar websites off course but at least I know photobucket definitely works.

I decided mine just looked too ordinary so:

This is a pic compliments of Ragnar's site of the original look of it

No problem.
I like your knife, which type number Mora is it so I can see the original?
Most of the Mora's I've seen are with plastic handles and look brutally ugly.

Starting from the left, these are the things I've done:

*1st (red): handle sanded for grip. Patina.
*2nd (blue): handle sanded for grip. Full convex blade. Drop point.
*3rd (2000): reshaped handle. Drop point.
*4th (black): patina. Drop point.
*5th (long green): colored handle. Filed off sharp edges on blade. Patina.
*6th (short green): colored handle. Filed off sharp edge back of blade. Patina.
*7th (paracord): it's just a blade with a paracord wrapped handle and a more acute edge, along with a patina.
*8th (yellow): patina.

I guess the one which has been modified the most is the 2000 and the convex blue one; but I do like the drop points over the clip points.

How did you prep the wooden handled Moras to ensure the handels won't chip? I was thinking about the same, but am afraid the new painted finish will chip.

Jim

Stoffi, digging that blue viking and the M2K mod. Those shoemaker blades are really nice too. Here's one I wrapped for a customer.

I just sanded them down a lot before spraying them with some Montana Gold graffiti spray paint. I'm not expecting the paint to stay on there more than the red color that was on there from the beginning.

Man, that is a nice wrap! Samuraaaaaiiii! Yeah, I like those blades too. They're like 3-4 Dollars or something and they're a really nice platform to start with if you wanna make a simple knife.

Right.
Just made an offer on a Mora classic #3.
Can't wait to get a file, sandpaper and make a similar mod.

What did you do for the sheet?
I ques it doesn't really prevent the knife from falling out anymore?

good for you on your new mora...for the sheath on mine i actually went to smokey mountain knife works and dug around in there sheath bins til i found a nice leather 1 that would work. think i paid $2. i fitted it to the mora and have been happy to use it rather then the horribly cheap feeling plastic sheath that came with it....

i like the finish on your handle. kinda a rustic finish.

I was actually going to stain it a dark walnut color, but I didn't remove enough of the original finish, and it went on a bit uneven. I liked it so much better i decided not to fix it. i wiped down the sheath with the same stain to match, and had recently forced the Patina with a bit of vinegar.

I love the new look, and am thrilled to carry it with the new look!!

Mod on folks!!

Just made my 511 more like 510 (since 510 have been discontinued) but I still kept a little finger guard just in case, because it doesnt get in the way. I also drilled a lanyard hole and forced a patina on the blade using mustard.
I had to carve a peace of wood as a plug to put in the sheath because without the finger guard the knife was moving inside quite a bit. Now when I press the plug in, the knife is tight and secure so it doesnt move at all.
