I don't think we have a thread dedicated to the Asp so I'll kick it off with my tangerine Asp :D

Here's a fuzzy picture of Jerry's Nice Asp® demonstrating why his preferred method of horizontal carry doesn't work for me:

Hey Phillip!

Hey Phillip/Andy,

Just a bit of feedback on the Asp and having a more comfy Asp :) ...

I'm not sure if the Tangerine one was done that way by design but I have 3 Asps and all the rest I've seen seem to have a pointed thumb ramp. No pun intended but it took me a while to put my finger on why my Tangerine Asp seems more comfy. The handle area is a bit longer and the scale material goes a bit more forward beyond where the thumb ramp tip and then the tip area was ground down. The other two Asps tend to have somewhat a "hot spot" on the thumb. Makes a big difference and I just thought I'd share for your consideration.

Thanks
Jerry

Good catch. I have tended to do them like the tangerine lately. It produces a neat little facet that gets added to the handle. I am interested to hear that you find that one more comfortable. Does it seem to support the webbing of your fist better?

Thanks. Well, I spend very little time doing bushcrafting although that's the main intent for your knives. But yes, it would be more supportive and comfortable in the webbing.

For the two grips I use most with the Asp, my thumb is either half way onto that tip or in front of that tip. In either case, a pointed tip is pretty much just that - a somewhat sharp edge under the thumb. And, everyone's hands are going to be different sizes but for my hands, the fingers lay more comfortably and flat on the Tangerine Asp because the handle is just a bit longer.

Thanks for the info and quick response,
Jerry

Asp bump! Let's see em ;)

Jerry, you have a very knife collection of Asps. It's a fantastic design. I might need to pick one up to use as a self-defense knife. Or a Sneaky Pete....or maybe one of Allen's Cudas; it looks nice and small.
