After looking at pictures and building deadfall for pratice I decided to catch something with one I have been experimenting for a week . First off I believe most deadfalls pictured on the web are built to high and if you lower it you need more weight to be effective . yes I have built fences and cubbies to guide critters in . Small game is quick to side jump and dodge strikes . I got a hit today I either not good hit or a cat stole my squirrel

I See a lot of deadfalls on the net and in books set up like this. High drop . I have set and watched squirrel trip this and jump clear

I think this hieght is more effective for small game but shorter drop means you need more weight to do whats needed

I think just high enough for the target game to get under it will work best Just my humble opinion

Looks good to me, deadfall weight should be 5 times the weight of your intended prey !

God pics! Really all these projects should be conducted in accordance with the site and with much patience I'm not good at deadfalls!:D

As I said most deadfalls I see in pictures for small game are to high of drop It isn't hard to make a deadfall that works when you trip it with a stick . To make one that a squirrel will trip is a different story. My first tries I watched squirrels trip them jump clear untouched . Had I been thrust into a survival stituation Most of the deadfalls I had practiced would have failed. This is why we need to practice this stuff before you have to use it . For the record I am decent with snares but after this little exercise I may practice some this fall
Squirrel ... It's what for dinner:D
