Let's Talk Kurdish (Iraq) Knives; What should I get?

My girlfriend will be returning home this summer for about a month. I told her the only thing I want is a Kurdish knife/dagger from one of the markets. I'm instructing her to be on the look out for imports and hopefully find an authentic sheath. I'm going to give her about $200 there ... they use dollars mostly and goods are priced about the same as the US ($1.75 coke, $8 meal), less some rare items like chicken being as pricey as beef and Euro/US cars costing about 150% of US prices.

Anyway, what type of knives/daggers are historically prevalent in Kurdish areas? Any particular designs, which I could steer her towards?

Thanks! I'll be sure to post pics come August!

Well her city is near Iran and has a lot of Persian influence (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sulaymaniyah)... Regardless of what she brings back, I think that I'll be coming out ahead!

You might look into things like the kard, pesh-kabz, khanjar, and jambiya. Jambiyas and khanjars are a traditional blade design common throughout the middle-east, and featured a curved, often very wide blade, though width and degree of curvature vary based on maker and region. These should be fairly easy to find as they are still worn today in many areas. Kards and pesh-kabzs are a longer, thrusting design and I do not know if they are still regularly made/carried.

Dont tell her what to get, show it to her instead.

My better half went to Iran, and i asked her to bring me back a knife from the local market. She got me this SAK-knockoff thats the worst piece of crap ive ever seen  A great chance was blown there.

Look for a Kard picture on the Internet: it will not be all Karchashians, I have checked!
