Okay, so it's finally happened. The rage virus has been released and now the streets are crawling with screaming, running, flesh eating freaks.

You can bring 5 knives with you into the apocalypse? and most importantly why?

My top 5 skull stickers are:

1 - Full size black ka-bar - I have the short version now and I love it (currently fixing a chip in the blade). Think the extra 2 inches would be nice.
2 - becker combat utility - Highly recommended survival knife. A must have.

3 - United Cutlery honsho tanto push danger - Clipped to the belt for quick grab and jab.

4 - leatherman - mut EOD - A good multi tool can have endless possibilities.

5 - Spyderco matriarch - For cutting hard plastics and such.

Much like any apocalyptic situation, I think I'll stay at home with all of my knives and more importantly, my shelter and all my other stuff. I realize unless I've planned ahead that only works til my food runs out but, still. I'll never get why when [x disaster] happens, people all plan to bug out to the woods, etc. No reflection on the topic of course, just saying.

Anything less than, at the very least, 20 inches of reach would probably be pointless as a defensive tool against "rage zombies". And only against 1, at the most.

And hey! Multi tool isn't a knife. :p

Isn't the United Honsho a Karambit? Or do they make a Honsho Karambit and push dagger as well?

That's pretty much how things are today, at least here in the USA. :D

UC's Honshu line includes several types: karambit, several push daggers, a couple of tantos, a double edge dagger, and a clip point.

Can I trade my 5 knives for more canned food? I plan on barricading myself at home with my ammo and booze.

Well if the multi-tool doesn't count then, I'll throw in a Ka-bar Kukri.

You can bring whatever firepower you see fit, and any blade over 20 inches isn't a knife anymore.

Well if you really mean any firepower... I'll bring this guy

He even has lots of sharp edges.

You lose, zombie scum.

As a fan of Resident Evil games from back when they were true survivor horror games I take a "combat knife", Beretta M92F and a green herb. I see you in the safe zone.

Though if zombies were coming I grab my SAK and try to grow a mullet and go MacGyver on all those zombies if the Resident Evil option isn't available. Don't know about you but I don't want to be in melee with a zombie I'd rather start building trebuchets, crossbows, etc.

I don't do the 28 day later zombie .only the slow moving ones from the walking dead :D so this is my five for the slow ones .

As of right now I don't have any zombie-killin' knives. Biggest thing I've got is a Cold Steel Code 4 lol. So I'm pretty much dead.

If we're talking knives for surviving encounters with zombies, like the walking dead series, then the KA-BAR kukri machete has to be mentioned. Serious chopping power without a lot of weight. If the guys over at Zombie Go Boom know what they're doing with their Ivan heads, we're talking serious skull penetration and brain damage from such a knife.

I'd probably take 3 out of these, and a couple folders for when I'm not slashing and stabbing. I'm not taking all 4 because the weight might get heavy, and then I'll only have one folder for utility stuff. Also add a Leatherman Charge if multitools don't count.

Guess this means I need to finally buy a Kabar Becker BK-9 before the streets are over run with freaks and the normal shipping channels are disrupted. Do you think FedEx will still ship when they have to dodge zombies on the interstates?

Right now, it is a short machete and an AR for me.

Some sort of machete, Condor golok or barong maybe, a folder of some sort for utility, possibly my Spyderco Manix S110V, my SAK, and...I dunno, I don't think I'd bring 5 knives. Maybe throw in a shorter fixed blade or something, say an Ontario Pilot Survival Knife or a Mora perhaps.
