Because of the generosity of the many people on the forum in regards to Dave aka Vampire Gerbil's situation and the countless times the community has helped others in need, I've sent this email to Blade magazine in the hopes that they'll show everyone that reads their magazine that there are good people who collect and carry knives.

So here's a copy of the email I just sent to Blade magazine, I encourage everyone to do the same because this is a worthy story that shows the community and industry in a positive light.

Remember, everyone that carries a knife is not a bad guy.

We’re always looking’ for good press for the knife community, we all know the press seizes on every opportunity to show some negative aspect of the industry or will skew a story to down play any positive facet of having’ a knife.

I’m a member of one of, if not the largest knife community on the INTERNET, Blade Forums dot com, (Blade Forums.com) one of many similar sites on the INTERNET, all of these communities represent the knife industry in a positive light and are vast clearing houses for knife industry information.

Aside from providing a place like many others for like minded people to share their hobbies and interest, they also provide help to people who sometimes can’t help themselves for what ever reason.

Blade Forums is such a place, a place where no one is judged and most everyone are friends on some level, some gather locally at knife clubs while others see each other only at the various knife shows around the world.

In the spirit of helping a friend one member in particular, with the help of so many others have been helping a member, Vampire Gerbil, who has had a run of bad luck, her forum name is Totally Judy, she has led the way being there to help and along with so many others has given freely of their time and money without a thought for anything other than to help

Judy has managed to take one member as her mission and has given up a lot of time driving back and forth watching over him, she’s also managed to set up an disperse funds donated by other BFC members.

This is a powerful story that shows the knife community in a very positive way and I think it would benefit both your Publication, (which I subscribe to) and the knife communities, which we all belong to.

Here is a link to the story my email address is terdelyi@epix.net my forum name is T. Erdelyi, also included is link http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/sh...vampire+gerbil to the thread that shows the true caring and generosity of Blade Forums dot com also here is the email of Totally Judy who spearheaded the relief effort for Vampire Gerbil totallyjudy@yahoo.com .

I bring this to your attention because this is the type of thing the knife industry could use, if nothing else you owe it to the industry and community to see what a positive effect people who use, carry and collect all types of knives are really capable of at best it would make a great story with the community being shown in a constructive way.

Thank you for your time and please take the time to read the short story/post,

Tibor A. Erdelyi subscriber, knife collector and user

Here's the email address I used, seein' as how Bruce doesn't own it anymore I sent it to the Blade email.

Hey T.E,

I love that you sent that email to Blade. It is great. I believe that the members of BF who have helped VG collectively need to be acknowledged. And I also support an email and/or letter compaign to Blade.

I don't think it is fair that I be singled out in the VG assistance campaign. All I did was agree to handle the funds and pay the Visiting Angels. Sure, I went out and did some things for Dave, which any one of you would have done if you lived closer than I do. Not that 3 hours one way is close, but when you live in the desert like Dave and I do, 3 hours is 3 hours and not uncommon.

I would feel more comfortable if the emails focused on what everyone is doing. It's not about ME. Well, most of the time it IS all about me, but not this time.

This is about Blade Forums and all of the caring and compassionate folks who make this place what it is, and who care enough about VG and others to help out a member friend in need.

What about the memberships that people have helped pay for - for members who couldn't afford to renew? That's worth mentioning?

What about the Collaboration Knife that is going on where it will be raffled off with the proceeds going to the Breast Cancer Society? That is one heck of a knife. I'm proud to say that I helped fund the making of that knife, and did many others on BF. But the Knifemakers are donating their time to get this Collaboration Knife made so it can be raffled off.

And Richard J. who started making a collaboration knife to be auctioned off (not from BF) to raise money to help VG. And the knifemakers and leather makers who are assisting Richard J to get that collaboration knife finished?

You are all amazing people and you have helped in any way you could. Sometimes help was just in asking how Dave is doing and sending best wishes to him. He is thrilled to know that people care.

You all care. You all matter. You all make Blade Forums the wonderful place that it is to hang out in.

And of course there is Spark. Without Spark, none of this would exist. Spark authorizes all of these collaborations and assistance threads that happen.

Thanks Spark - for giving us all a home away from home. For giving all the Knife Knuts someplace to hang out where there are good people to share ideas with, and to buy knives from, and to sell knives too, etc. etc. etc.

You all get it. It's about the members. Send your emails to Blade and make it about the members, about Spark, about the caring what happens to members who are down on their luck.

'Cuz it ain't about me.

Judy

I aggree with you completely Judy and you were a startin' point, sometimes you can't even get these guys to read an email unless it sounds interesting.

I believe if they just read one instance of helping out anyone, we have makers and dealers who send knives over to the boys in Iraq and other places.

Judy you just happened to be the first one I thought of, don't be modest though, you did a lot to help out the nite rat, Dave aka Vampire Gerbil.

Everyone should feel free to send a email just to get BFC recognition as a community for all the good we do.

I sent one too, thanks for the address. I told Dave about it and he is realllly excited about it. He can't believe that any group of people would be willing to help him the way that you guys have. Thanks from the Gerbil.
