Remember Sgt. Karka's son, Ramasore, who we helped get thru college in Kathmandu? Well, read on. Here's one kami who will not be pounding hot steel for the rest of his life.

Every forumite can take some pride in this accomplishment because without the HI Social Services fund this would never have happened. And, a hats off to Dad, Sgt. Karka who sold his modest home in order to help finance Ram's college effort.

Here it is:

Go get'em, Ram. These are the kind of stories I love to stick in this forum.

That's the best part about HI - not only are we getting great knives and helping people practice at the top of their craft, but we're actually helping them to improve their lives.

Maybe I need to order that Gelbu special after all.....:D

It's a feel good story, for sure.

I remember a rather astounding statistic from my tour of duty in Nepal. I was chatting with the Royal Dentist one day and I remember him telling me there were only 19 dentists in Nepal -- this for a population of about 20 million!!! The ratio of doctors to populace is somewhat better but not a hell of a lot. Ram will make a huge contribution to the betterment of Nepal.

Thats Why I continue to support HI and tell all my friends. Its a lot more that just great knives

Its great to know that the knives we buy contribute to a worthty cause. I dont regret any bit of money I have spent here.

From the sound of the letter he has the fortitude to do what he has set out to do. Seems to me that any one willing to study 15 hours a day should surely make the grade. When he is finished with the studies he will sure be needed at home.

This makes me love the khuks that I have and the others all the more.:)
