I've heard claims that the letter/number stamps on True Tempers denoted military units and truck numbers (A Company/Truck 6). I've also heard that this was an internal numbering system for True Temper. I tend to believe the latter. But what do you guys know about these stamps?

I don't believe the military would take the time to number tools for individual trucks. What have you guys heard?

I don't think it was military. Don't know for sure though but my B41 looks like a later flat cheek axe of maybe the 60's or 70's. I just sold an A39 with phantom bevels of the perfect style. My guess is an internal numbering system, maybe an inspectors mark. That's just an uneducated guess though.

I know I've had two more recent (one kelt perfect and one true temper FSS) axes with numbers/letter, i think one is A26, and the other is A24

I don't know anything, but I believe they were used for internal quality controll. They could probably tell what production run each head came from, in house heat treat, tempering and heat number from the purchased steel. I only find these stamps on what I believe is later True Temper heads.

Woodslashers later stuff.

I find these stamps on all the pulaski's marked FSS. These seem to all start with the same letters BR. These heads will just have the True Temper logo, with ribbed eyes and the larger grub hoe in comparison to the older heads.

The earlier pulaski's are smaller, have more logos and will just have the FS stamp with no ridges in the eye and they lack these letter and number stamps.

BTW, I am sure you know that a head that just has the True temper logo and ridges in the eye won't necessarily have the letter number stamps.
