Dear Sal,
I bought my first Spyderco in 2000, after watching "Cliffhanger". Having been a newbie on the forums then, I promptly read the reviews and comments right here on BFC and decided to buy the Endura PE. That knife travelled with me to Malaysia, Phillippines & Indonesia on my many adventures. I resharpened it many times, dropped it a few times but it was an absolute performer. I sold it for $30 to a local kid when I was going through a jobless spell a few years later - I remember how wide his eyes went when he saw how sharp it was!!! (I put a mirror finish on the edge with my edgepro). By that time though, I had bought and traded many other Spydercos and even ventured a little into the world of custom knives.
For the past 2 years, I have been mostly into customs, but with a grey Caly Jr being my office EDC. That knife was lost a month ago, and it was a depressing time for me.
But when one door closes, another opens right?
Yesterday, I found that other door. I had a reminder as to why Spydercos have a very special place in my heart. Great design, good ergonomics, great pricing and great performance. I dare say what I received yesterday was the best knife of 2006, even better than some of my customs. I received my very own Caly 3. It went immediately into my right pocket, after shaving my arm hairs and slicing up some paper
. Again, the edge your team puts on every Spyderco I've received is just enviable. (in fact, when I buy custom knives, I ask the knifemakers to put a scary sharp edge on my knives ie. "I want the edge to be scary sharp like a PE Spyderco out of the box").
Yours are the only production knives I have consistently used and kept. Someday, I hope to own my very own Spyderco with my Internet handle etched on it, just like my buddy, Samo's manix.
BTW, the "spy" in my handle "spyken" is actually in reference to Spyderco.
Thank you Sal, for such a wonderful little great knife. Thank you for making Spydercos.
ps: I am looking forward to the Caly 4 (?) that is the version with the ZDP189 steel and carbon fibre scales. May I ask that you use solid ZDP189 and blasted CF for grippability.
I am looking forward also to the Lum Chinese, although I am disappointed it will not be a hard anodized ti framelock with solid ZDP189 steel.
pps: I promptly ordered a second Caly 3. As a back-up in case I ever (God forbid) lose my new Caly 3.
Sincerely,
James
