Isn't that the Mikel Hawke agri-worker survival model?:D

That's cool technology here is a youtube video showing U Arizona developing a new version of that knife.

Ontario makes some similar knives, the lettuce and cotton knives have always intrigued me a bit. I like the blade shape, but have absolutely no idea what I'd use them for.

Not to be a smart-alec, but, umm... harvesting lettuce and cabbage and stuff. :D They're pretty specialized... if you garden they'd be handy. Otherwise, not so much. You could have a larger, thicker custom made in that shape for chopping and hacking up zombies, I suppose.

That's cool, but it took them 6 months to figure out that smooth, polished steel holds less dirt and bacteria than rough steel?

It's the recurve part of the blade that is the most useful - you can cut by pulling the knife toward yourself.

If you like it, get one of the Ontario ones. They are inexpensive and won't break the bank. Ontario also has some other working knives. Check out their web site. They are also made in the USA.

I bought an Ontario field knife (10" blade), thinned the blade a little to make it into a kitchen knife. Seems to hold up very well. I just touch it up on a steel before I use it, only take it to the stone every 4-6 months. Gets used daily.
