Hello everyone, I am new to CRK and I am looking to purchase my first Sebenza :D

I have settled on the Large Classic, but I have not decided if I want to spend a bit more for the micarta inlays or just get the plain titanium handles. I figure that if the knife gets dirty, etc, it would be easier to wash if there were no inlays. Is this true? Can micarta get wet?

Also, I was wondering if someone could post a picture of the spines of a Seb with micarta inlays (I guess wood would be ok as long as the inlays are the same size) and a Seb without them, so I can differentiate between the thicknesses of the two knives.

Thanks for any light you guys can shed on these subjects. :)

Bump. If anyone could help me out with this, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks!

Micarta can get wet with no ill effects, it dries relatively quick. I don't have a picture of the spine of the micarta, but I can say with confidence that you will indeed like the micarta more. It gives your hand that extra hold you need for heavy chores or long use, to me anyway.
:)

Thanks for your help. So if I brush the knife with a toothbrush and soap, I don't have to avoid the micarta at all?

No its tough as nails. With really dirty scales on fixed blades I just get an old tooth brush loaded with dish soap and really work it into the Micarta. I then rinse and brush with hot water to get rid of all the soap. Then wipe with a towel to get most of the water off. Next, go to your range/hob/cooker whatever you call it, (its easier with gas) fire up one ring and holding the knife by the blade position it about 18 inches above the heat and rotate it. The scales will be dry in about 10-20 seconds, and man, do they look purty!

Ok, great news. That is what I do with my other knives, except I use an air gun to dry them instead.

I'd go for the Micarta Inlays. I have a small Micarta Classic. I've used it for everything. I have gotten the Micarta wet on several occasions and water has had no effect on it. The Micarta Inlays allow you to get a better grip on the handles in IMO, especially when the knife is getting wet, they look good, and their really durable. Go for the Micarta in otherwords...you wont be dissapointed, then again, you probably wouldnt be dissapointed with the plain handles either...it is a CRK afterall.

The thickness diffference between the plain and inlaid handles is very small--only a couple (maybe 3) millimetres or less than 1/8 inch. That small difference though does give the knife a much more 'rounded' feel and IMO is much more comfortable.
Micarta is also not affected by blood, or even petrol.
