i couldnt decide which to get the bm710 or the spyderco military,well... i went with the spydie, hopefully i made the right decision for a hard use survival knife. can anyone tell me if this model the spyderco military C36GPE came with a compression lock or just the plain liner lock.? thank you

To the best of my knowledge, the Military has never been anything but a liner lock, though there is the Paramilitary which does use a compression lock. They are two different knives.

Nested liner lock. The Para Military has the compression lock, as well as some other Spydies.

You will encounter various opinions as to whether the BM 710 or the Military is the most hard use knife. I have them both, and they are vastly different.

Personally, I think the BM axis lock may have a strength advantage over the Military liner lock. The Military hasn't failed on me, so my presumption may be without basis. The axis lock looks stronger do to its construction and mechanics.

Chip in here Buzzbait anytime you wish.

I think you'll be pleased with the Military, best thing to do is buy them both, and then decide. Sell or trade the other, someone ALWAYS snaps them up in a hurry.

Good Luck,

Thomas Zinn :)

how strong is the lock on the military? is it close in strength as the axis or vastly weaker? I knew i should have gone with the axis!

the lock on the military is heavy duty rated by spyderco, capable of holding about 150lbs/inch of blade... that's one helluva strong lock, i'm not a liner lock fan myself but the military is known for being very strong & reliable and is also one of the more popular spydercos out so there i really don't think you'll be disapointed with it...
either way, when you buy a spyderco or a benchmade, both will make you happy as both have excellent knives.

Do a search on here and you will find heaps of positive reviews on the Millie. I've beaten mine hard for a couple of years and it shows no signs of wear.

Take your Millie out and use it hard and you will begin to see the genius of it's design.

If you do a search you will find Buzzbait's excellent review comparing the Military, the 710HS, and large Sebenza.

The Military is staggeringly good. You almost cannot be disappointed with it. Might you find that you prefer a different knife (an Axis locker, for example)? Absolutely.

But... It will simply be a matter of preference, different strokes and all that, not because the Military ever let you down.

When you get it, kick hell out of it and then see what you think. Even if you become a diehard Benchmade guy, you'll always say, "I had a Military and although I like my Benchmades better, it was a fantastic knife." :)

I just started a "if you could only keep one knife, which would it be" thread on the knifemaker's forum and the one I would keep, right now, is my Military. I have the CPM440V version from a few years ago and I love it. Never failed me, and I've used it more than any other folder. I love the thin profile of the handles. The new Military knives are thicker G-10 for the handles, like the Paramilitary, but I didn't like the thicker G-10 and thicker handle of it as much as the good ol' Military. You certainly didn't do bad getting a Military, trust me! Just get the 710, too, then you'll be in great shape! :D

Get both and then compare. See which one you like, sell the one you don't. I have both Axis locks and several big Spydercos, including the latest Military, my EDC. It replaced a BM722 in that role. ( I also carry a tip-up modified Cuda Maxx, my EDC at work)
