I’m sure most of you watch forged in fire. Well the last epasode was a doozie. One finalist busted two blades and had a shop fire. He did not end up winning which sucks because the money would have really helped repair his shop from the fire. I have contacted him and asked if he would be open to receiving some care packages. I would be in for steel. Who else out there has some extra stuff thy could send. Thanks guys

I'm on the road for work and didn't see it but I'm sure I could find something to help the guy out. Let us know what he says.

A go fund me page would be ideal - I don't really have anything that's worth sending, but would be HAPPY to toss a few bucks on a go fund me page. I suspect there are plenty other folks with the same idea, AND perhaps as important, Liam could use the money where it's most needed.

Poor guy surely did have bad luck on that show- two broken blades and a fire!

bummer.. i did not see the episode. was everything lost including machinery? i can send some handle materials, wood, micarta. some belts.

Should have had insurance but a good fund my works. Hopefully someone here knows how.

Wasn't he insured?

Don't have a clue - and even if typical homeowners insurance sometimes they can jerk you around trying not to pay - receipt for everything lost, and I know I don't have receipts for much at all. Also it might be homeowners they start hollering commercial since he was on FiF. Hard to say without Liam chiming in.

I thought he said Insurance would cover the loss.

Yes, he made a really bonehead mistake. He set a big tall tank of oil on a turkey fryer to temper a sword. It boiled over and pretty much exploded. It looked like sone stuff was messed up and other stuff wasn't. It was certainly a big cleanup task.

This is why we repeatedly tell people that tempering in oil is very dangerous.

I have only tempered/quenched in heated oil a few times. I was trying out a few of bluntcuts heat treat recommendations. But it’s sketchy knowing you got a bath of oil sitting there that is 300-400deg.

Also I have Liam’s address. If anyone has something thy want to send him let me know and I will pass you the address.

Obviously the fire was some time back. Depends how much he recovered as to what his current needs are.

Don't know what I could offer though. A go fund me or perhaps some other method to help him in his current state.

Jim
