Hi folks - I have had lots of interesting conversations with friends who are libertarians by nature. We enjoy the discussions.
I don't see any liberals running for office - I see conservatives (the Democrats) and I don't know what to make of Republicans today. They want to change everything - that is not conservative. The pres. wants to privatize social security, and that is a loser for most of us. He wants a flat tax, and that will raise my taxes. This is not really conservative.
Conservatives want to maintain the status quo. By this sort of definition, the Democrats aren't conservative either, since they want a change in leadership.
Incidentally, Democrats are good for business. If you look at what has happened to the stock market after Republicans were elected president - it went down in 6 of the last 7 presidencies. It generally went up after Democrats were elected. It is lower now than it was 4 years ago.
The point of all of this is that there is a lot of stereotyping going on in the media and the election campaign. We need to look at all of the political junk with an open mind.
I predict that whether the next president is a Republican or a Democrat, the stuff is going to hit the fan. Paul Volker, the former Fed. Chief under Reagan, said that there is a 75% chance of a financial crisis next year. You can't go on borrowing forever without paying for it.
Borrowing is good to buy a khukuri. Borrowing 1/4 of your income each year is not so good....I am referring to Federal spending.
I hope that people don't get too bent out of shape by my comments, but I thought that the title of this thread came across as a little condescending. The intent was positive, and that was good - that is what is important. People can have honest differences of opinion in our country, and that is what has made it better than all of the others. When Americans start to trash each other - that makes us weaker.
