Alright yall, with the final Tyrant Bowie's getting finished out and the Super 8 getting finalized, I'm looking at my next chopper project.

First off, I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who stayed with me through the Tyrant Bowie run. It was a complex model and a small tooling change set me back months. They've turned out great and I'm super proud of them, but the bowie was an inherently expensive blade and I wished so badly that I could have offered a version that was cheaper, but with the steel dimensions, necessary fit and finish etc... there was just no way to do it.

So, I'm on a mission to create a nasty, high quality, and affordable big chopper that can bring people a grin on a budget.

We have the tooling/ production processes really dialed in now and I'm confident I can get new models out quickly and efficiently. Now, so without further ado, I want to gauge potential interest on reviving the Liberator Bolo.

This is one of my favorite models. It's a stupidly powerful and durable chopper that's compact, light enough to carry, and looks the part.

Best of all, they are cut from 3/16th stock, nest pretty well on the water jet, and the tooling to mill them is simple. These would be offered with an ultra clean, fully tooled finish so I can keep cost down and make them fast.

So, who is interested in a Z Tuff Liberator Bolo run, 3/16th stock, Fully stonewashed with a sheath for $499?

Adjusted for inflation and accounting for the upgraded steel, I think this is actually close to what I was able to offer them for back in 2014.

Here's a drawing of what we would be looking at. I'd like to offer it with and without a Ring Choil if its possible. For the choiless version I might add a small forward guard to protect the hand.

Honestly, not sure. I’m interested in the Bolo, but more interested in the Kukri. If the Bolo comes first, I’d be tempted, but I already have a similar Chris Berry knife. And also waiting to see how the Mega Boner turns out. So . . .

Count me in , sir.
On the other hand, a slightly canted handle?
Having a 52100 Liberator. That beast will serve you well in the rainforest of South East Asia.

Any chance we can add this on too?

I'll admit, I'm getting more interested over time. Particularly if it's a quick production run that doesn't delay the kukri development too much.

Out of interest, what's the approximate weight on the Liberator Bolo in 3/16" stock? Around 25oz?

For it's size, the Liberator Bolo is the hardest hitting chopper I've used. Including Busse and Carothers. I'm obsessed with choppers and field knives and IMHO it's in the top 1% of 1% of choppers out there.

I’m also very impressed by the evolution of design. While old blades look traditional and classic, new ones also look traditional and classic, but somehow, I don’t know, there’s something new about them. They’ve been brought to some new level in terms of appearance.

Hi Hunter, understand that you are currently planning on the run of the Liberator Bolo.
Do you see the benefit of adding a canted butt on the tang ( and the scales) just like the pic below ( cross referenced from AbbyDaddy’s review on Carothers Behemoth)

Reason I’m asking because I’ve tried both Behemother and LB myself and found the 5-6 deg canted end (after the 2nd tang pin) is :
1. More ergonomic on the grip
2. Less tiring on the wrist.
3. Allows more multiple grip options from fine task to heavy chopping.
I do see this as a contender to local jungle knife which one blade rules all.

Would it be possible to add that to the bolo?

Just an idea that I thought I’d like to share to make this fantastic blade extra awesome.

Hi Jay,

Absolutely. This is something that I've actually been working on and almost incorporated into the Tyrant Bowie handle, but for pure knife work/ slicing etc..., I personally prefer a straight handle and using a canted handle for slicing and carving just isn't comfortable for me. The Tyrant is so dang powerful as well that you don't ever really do much extended chopping.... It kind of just blasts though everything in seconds haha. So I went for a more comfortable knife grip thats more suitable for carving and slicing and making power cuts into wood.

On the Fell Beast and other machetes, I'm not able to do it because the front part of the handle has to be thinned so much that it can cause weakness in such thin stock, so I've always had to keep the Fell Beast handles thicker in the front for durability.

For something like the Bolo, I think it makes alot of sense. The Parang and upcoming tyrant Kukri both feature a canted handle that gets the wrist into a more natural position for for prolonged chopping.

The Bolo's stock is thick enough that I could add some canting to the handle without issue. I think it will be beneficial for prolonged chopping.
