Don't have any answers for you, Stoned Elf, just a question. Here in the States, we need a seperate class of license to drive a motorcycle on the highway, but once we have the license, we can ride ANY bike we want. It sounds like in the UK, they have set it up where you need a different class of license for each SIZE range of bikes? Is that the case, or did I misunderstand the post? Just curious, as I am always fascinated by the way things work in different countries, which is waht's so cool about these forums. You can "meet" people from all over. Thanks for any answers, and I hope you have good luck getting what you need.

@ 16 you can get a provisional motorcycle license you can ride a 50cc machine

@17 you can get a license and ride up to a 125cc bike

after that I think you can take tests for bigger bikes as you get older.

Thanks for the answer, Stoned Elf. This was supposed to be in your thread, but it somehow mutated into it's own thread, instead of a reply. Oh, well.

That's interesting about how they do motorcycle licenses. Over here we have what's called a "Learner's Permit" for kids (15 or so) learning to drive a car. They can't drive a car by themselves, but CAN drive as long as they have a licensed 18 year old in the car with them.
