Great Yule...the wifey got me World of Warcraft, since we're both big RPG'ers, and haven't been able to get our AD&D fix with any regularity since moving.

We're sort of atypical for gamers in that we actually have fully developed lives aside from gaming. At no time have either of us lived in our parents' basements, and we have jobs and other hobbies to fulfill our time. But we both like gaming, since it's a relatively low-cost recreation, and it allows us a creative outlet to explore.

So, she gets me WoW as a test...because she sees that this could possibly provide a replacement for gaming, especially since we haven't found many folks in WF whose lifestyles are compatible, who game. We've played together on the computer before, and we enjoyed it, so she's hoping that we can virtually 'game' with this. I've been sceptical, up to now, but I thought, "Hey, I'm really jonesing for a bit of hack-n-slash, so what the hey?"

Dear God. I can easily understand how folks get their lives sucked away by this game. It's fun, it's fairly easy to pick up, and you can even hook up with other gamers in groups. Given half a chance, you can forget to eat, just wandering around the world!!

The neat thing is, you can apparently have an infinite number of characters, although you can only ever play one at a time. For me, half the fun of gaming is exploring the various permutations of race/class and appearance...

:D

My favorite PC game is Warcraft II Orcs vs. Humans.

Old game, but I still play it every so often.

Starcraft is fun also.

Strange. I am probably one of the biggest gadget freaks in the world. I own three or four of everything since the Industrial Revolution - laptops, PDA's, iPods, cameras, GPS...if it's an electronic gadget I own what's hot (or multiples of it).

However, I have never had even the slightest interest in gaming (whereas my son owns, at last count, 9 different "systems" with most of the accessories). So, yes, I have tried many different games. And I have never been able to develop the slightest interest in them.

What's my problem? :(

RPG'ers........ so you and your wife are into Rocket Propelled Grenades?

hey Kilandras, try Asheron's Call, you will find it is one heck of a mmorpg. My wife and I also have a real life, but we enjoy our gaming time, we have been playing Asheron's Call for about 5 years now;)

Kalindra, WoW is one of the best games I have ever played, but I kept going back to City of Heroes. If half the fun for you (like me) is making the character then try CoH it hands down has the best character creation in any game out there, I spend more time creating guys than I do actually playing. You can make almost anything you can think of or at least come close. But I need that fantasy fix and I miss WoW a bit. D&D online is coming out and I got to play a stress test version and it's going to be worth buying, not as cartoony as WoW but they nailed the D&D feel for a video game right on

Hey Cockroachfarm, I don't think you have a problem, I think that you're probably not a dork like the rest of us gamers, don't worry about it , knives are enough of a hobby

Welcome aboard! I've been playing it since open Beta, and I'm still not tired of it yet.

Yup, us also. We've got a group that's been playing everything from AD&D to Traveler to Twilight 2000 for at least 20 years. None of us started until we were in our 20's. The oldest is 55 and the youngest is 40. Everyone's been married at least once (3). Only one guy's had iffy career advancement. 5 of us are professinals (2 medical, 1 computer, 2 science based, 2 educational, 1 military). Several advanced degree holders (including PhD). All but 2 are home owners. Only 1 guy ever lived in his parent's basement and that was before joining the group. Several security clearances. We all make car payments, house or rent, insurance and tax payments on time. We've been at it so long that we've attended the funerals for 2 of the gang.

My wife worked in NorCal for a few months and quickly found a game shop and called to say the she was going to get in with an RPG group there. I laughed and had to 'splane that our folks weren't what RPGers were often like. After her first game day she called back and in gave me the "Wow, you were right, but they were fun anyway" report.;)

I don't know about WF, but I know folks that drive 2 or 3 hours once a week or everyother to get to a good game group. Good luck finding atypical RPGers to game with.

LOL Danbo !!

I played D2 for almost 3 years solid with some Day of Defeat thrown in for good measure.
I played Hardcore on US west.

A few months ago my old "clan leader" sent me the expansion disk I lost in hopes of getting me to play it again so I did.
For about 20 minutes. lol
Cant do the D2 anymore :D

My buddy Tom tried to get me into WoW and I played the beta but it didnt grab me at all.
I still think NWN online is the best D&D type game thus far.

I had been banned from playing D2 LOD online, the whole thing about my 'legit' hacked character on BNET killing a programmer... I hacked my game files rather than the character files, bnet's filters showed it to be legit so it got in. IP ban with t2 cable blows.

Finally got it back in here again last week. Started my current character on thursday, just hit lvl 70 today. Nightmare Baal was almost too easy with runeword helmet(delerium), armor(chains of honour) and weapon(breath of the dying)... playing as a soloist Werewolf. Only annoying part is balancing IAS and MF to keep yourself alive when doing rune & gem runs.

Have too much fun with the computer, why bother buying a seperate system? I can get better proformance on $300 worth of computer upgrades.

Doesn't matter how well equiped the other guy is if you play as a lighting sorc and telefrag em :D That never gets old...

It is possible that you did not find games which like yet.
Most of the time I play strategy or RPG. Morrowind is the best.
than Total War and Civilization

Heh, I got Asheron's Call back in Dec. of '99, played that game for 4 years. MMORPGs are at least as expensive as drugs, and possibly more addictive. I don't play AC anymore, tried ACII and hated it, hated EQ, EQII, City of Heros, Guild Wars, Eve Online.

Got WoW as a gift for Christmas and I'm hooked again, playing approx 6hrs a day on Burning Legion.

I know the D&D woes, I live in one of the largest cities in my state but can't find regular gamers to play with. Everyone seems to be willing to play, but never at the same time.

Aside from local gaming, I've found a few nifty applications that work well to bring a group together online. Gametable draws maps and rolls dice, Skype allows up to 8 people at a time to conference via headphones / microphones, Roleplaying Master pulls up rule lists and assists with character generation and leveling. I've also found a SRD (standard resource document) online that covers every single rule for D&D in a nifty little linked document that saves time and trouble clarifying rules, and eTools by Wizards of the Coast generates characters, monsters, and loot at random.

So don't give up hope, you may be able to convince your gaming buddies to go digital and get together online to play without having to chuck out $15 a month to WoW
