Life in the big city

The folks they were attempting to mug were probably intentionally looking like victims to draw them in. Good thing you were watching those guys or you might have been the one instead. Always good to be aware of whats going on around you and be at least a little prepared (if not more).

Felt kinda naked also. All I had on me was my SAK Champ and a container of mace made for use on dogs. The mace was in my right hand which was in my coat pocket ready to use. Maybe not so naked after all.

kinda scary. i imagine they had been victimizing others in the area which led to the uc's being posted.

hope they caught the bad guys.

Nice!:D Reminds me of a time when four guys were doing a drug deal in the park behind my house. Someone called the police. one of the policemen came up my driveway and drew his gun and then ran through my back yard. there were about twenty cops back in the park when they took down the four guys. The policeman who came through my yard said that the reason there were so many was because they were just changing shifts. Hehe.:D It made my day getting to see four guys get taken down buy twenty cops.:D

When I hear about things Like This I always Think "what if they werent cops" It scares me how many places in the world create victims by not allowing people to defend themselves.

This is a serious problem in Canada. Citizen are given little freedom to defend ourselves.

we have that problem down under :(

At least all we have to do in the US is move from Less gun friendle states to More tolerant ones. I would hate to live in a whole Country that is anti Gun

PS: I have read that Australias Crime rates have gone up since the Post Tasmani gun Bans is this true?

and dont get me started on canadas gun controll issues. whats worse is that there are people in this country who hold up these failures as examples to be emulated.

read a story a while back where thugs in Australia just walk up to houses and break in knowing that its illegal for people to own guns. crazy aint it?

can anyone confirm this report?

You should try living in the UK!

We are not allowed to carry *anything* that might be intended as some sort of weapon. We are absolutely not allowed to carry anything to defend ourselves with. We are not even allowed to carry a pocket knife with a locking blade without a provable, specific reason (like a specific job you are currently doing).

The police (probably at the order of government) like to have 'amnesties' where people can hand in their 'illegal weapons', usually some misguided people hand in such terrible items as antique, WWII knives and firearms. The government then say how well they are doing, 'look at all the weapons we've taken out of circulation.'

Needless to say, the criminals don't hand in theirs.

I remember years ago when Douglas Herd claimed that removing all firearms from private, licensed ownership would stop gun crime. He did it, and guess what? It made no difference. The criminals obviously didn't bother even applying for a license in the first place, and the licensed owners generally only shot theirs at the gun club. Trouble is, the sheeple believe the political hype.

The advice from the police should someone break into our home... We are to retreat to the furthest corner of the house/room and allow the intruder to do what they like. Only if they physically attack us are we then allowed to fight back, making sure that we do not use more force than they do. Then we will likely be prosecuted and sued, while the criminal's rights are protected for free by overpaid 'legal aid' solicitors.

I live on a relatively nice street, yet within less than 100 yards there have been two rapes and several muggings. I worry about my wife, who has to walk up the same dark path coming home from work.

The criminal element really seems quite fearless here. And why should they fear? Our 'goody goody' law system, run by the rich and well protected, seem bent on just slapping their wrists for anything but major theft. Only if they steal a lot from someone powerful are they really punished by the courts. Crimes against ordinary people are punished so lightly, if at all, that the offenders really don't care. If they get a little time in prison, they get to learn some new skills to use!

I used to teach in an EBD school for 11-16 year old boys. These were the types who had been expelled from every normal school in their areas. The attitudes I saw amongst the pupils there, obviously developed from parents and peers, were disgusting. Most of them were actively involved in assorted crime; car theft, drug dealing/abuse, burglery, mugging, etc. Many of them thought nothing of carrying knives and, as soon as they could get them, guns. Several came from well-known criminal families.

There attitude towards the police and law? Not interested; a joke. Future career prospects? Selling more expensive drugs, stealing more cars, working for their 'families/gangs' etc. We had several who were convicted of murder within a year or two of leaving us.

This is not just where I live, it is the whole country. The criminals are not afraid of the police, the courts, or the rest of the population, because they know they are not going to be hurt by any of them. If anything, they will be able to sue us! There was a recent case, settled out of court by the government for an undisclosed but very large sum of taxpayer money. Several convicted criminals sued the government for not providing them with illegal drugs while in prison! They refused a rehabilitation program, and just wanted their drugs. They claimed that denying them this was cruel punishment. I've paid for this with my taxes. I was disgusted beyond belief.

The most saddening thing as that, if we did carry and use a weapon of any sort in self defense, we almost certainly would be convicted in court by the sheeple. Not for defending ourselves as such, but for having the means to do so. Thanks to the government's programming that we must not have weapons. If we do, even for self-defense, we are evil.

Better get down off my soap box now.

By the way, I'm not really blaming the police for most of this. I'm sure they are more frustrated with 'the system' than I am. But then, they'd still quickly arrest me if I carried a defensive weapon, and the CPS would just as quickly have me in court for it.

Anyone in a more enlightened country want to give a job to an experienced science teacher and computer engineer, and a really experienced special needs teacher (my wife)???

Rick.

I have not seen that happening much.
There have been "home invasions" but they are generally drug related or drug debt related.
Only about 25% of the estimated guns were handed in during the amnesty years back.
There are still enough guns out here to put doubt in a crims mind.
Before the law change there was nearly enough guns for one each household.
Even now if you want to own a gun legally it is not that difficult.

Foxyrick I am sorry to hear of your Plight. Unfortunateley You and I both know the governments response will be stricter rules on civillians and draconian policing policies. Your country already has more police security cameras per square mile than any other and I laughed out loud when I saw the signs Posted in the Underground stations "Under watchful eyes" or whatever they said just a hair shy of "Big Brother is watching"

What bothers me is how many antigun americans hold your country up as an example to be followed. while I think there are many British examples we could follow your gun policies are a not among them.

PS Loug Sorry I hijacked your thread :foot:

wow, foxyrick im pretty pissed to hear about that. I was looking forward to moving to england too. You mean to tell me, i couldnt carry a lockable pocketknife there? thats just absurd lol. you got thugs runnin around with guns, but theyre going to talk to me about whether or not my POCKETKNIFES blade locks???? I can already see im going to have problems there...

and loug, whats a "sight summons for DC" ? And why were you put in county jail again? Im lost. And the police came to your house and put you in a hospital??? for what?? Ya lost me there. is there some things you didnt mention yet?

LOUG : I am so confused by your Story.

Foxyrick: I have heard of the term "Assault Knife" being used in england to describe tactical knives and I hear it is catching on as a term in america.

Any reason why the judge flipped out?
I would go to the papers about that little incident, write a letter
to every major paper explaining what ahappened. As many papers are fairly liberal, leaving out a rant about gun control would probably help get it published, then once people are listening let them have it.

theres something terribly wrong with this ...or youre forgetting some major details. lol. im not doubting you.. im just saying, theres got to be more to this story thats all. you dont just arrest someone, for nothing.. you could lose your job for that...and judges dont just throw people in jail for the hell of it. now im not saying police and judges arent incompetant..cuz most of the time they are. but... somethings amiss here. bad. ya just dont go around throwing people in jail for nothing..thats MAJOR lawsuits there. All i know is this... if im going to hell, i DAM SURE am going to commit the sin. id go over there and beat that guy unmerciful. id sue a few people too.

One-a big-a problemo. I own my house. If I touch someone they can turn around and sue me. I talked to a few attorneys about this incident and one came right out, square business, "I have to put food on the table too". For some reason, after 29 years of life in this house and neighborhood, no one can get a case against the local government unless it is for murder and the papers are involved. Me, I don't have the time to play anymore games with liers or curruption.
