Life Knife Commando, numbered? Help identify?

I just picked this up today... I did some quick searches online and found a few that look almost identical. Most sites said they were typical survival knifes from the 1980's.

This one has what looks like a hand stamping over the logo area... the number is 2 9 2 0

Does anyone have any idea what this number could mean? If it's a typical and inexpensive knife, I wonder why it would be numbered?

Thanks! :)

My guess would be something done by a previous owner to identify his knife. I have an Explorer virtually identical to that except for having a black blade.

I'm guessing the last post was a link to a live auction and was removed.

Just curious, was the knife also "numbered" ?

I've seen others for sale (I'm not interested in buying or selling).... I'm just wondering what the additional numbers that are stamped over the logo mean. I would think if someone wanted to I.D. their own knife, they'd put their name or ssn on it.
These numbers look hand stamped, one at a time.

Thanks!

No, There were no numbers stamped over the name and model.
But I searched under Life Knife and came up with several results.
I posted the link because it had info and pictures and did not realize I was breaking any rules.

It could be the last four digits of their SSN. Or their telephone number, if the town was small enough to only have one exchange (it was fairly common before cell phones).

These were pretty decent knives for the money. I sold them off awhile back to put towards CRK......The ones I had were RAZOR sharp and held a decent edge. Explorer made them, which I think thats what mine was. I believe they were distributed by Gutman Cutlery.
