I met a friend in town the other day and asked of the failing health of his dad and how he was doing. After talking for a few minutes the conversation turned to slipjoint collecting. He collects Case 10 dot congress. I mentioned the I had been interested in the whittler patterns and after talking knives for over an hour we parted ways. Well guess what shows up at my door today? A 28 year old case red bone whittler pattern #6383.:D Besides one little speck on the main blade the knife is perfect. I just had to share my good fortune with you all. Wish I could post a pic. Traditional fans are the best for sure. ;)

I love those ’83 whittlers too, although I don’t have anything as old and nice as the one your friend gave you. At least not yet.

I’ve gotten away from the whittlers lately and have been buying Cripple Creek knives. I think seeing the ones that Greg has posted spurred me along and he’s been very helpful in educating me about these knives. I’ve learned a lot and can’t thank Greg enough, and thanks to the others such as Gus and Nifrand who share their traditional knife knowledge and photos with the rest of us. A little education goes a long way with this hobby.

Wonderful gift of one of my alltime favorite patterns too. Of course the best thing about it is that it came from a friend.

Those Cargills are pretty special too. I only have a couple, but all the ones I have seen are very very fine. Nice area to collect in (just my opinion).

Nice story Dean. Although I only have one xx83 (5383), I hope to expand my collection with that style. I'm also looking for at least one good Cargill.

Edited to delete unintelligible language. ;)
