Sent my Benchmade in for a cleaning and sharpening.
Got the knife back and cosmetically it really looked great. But honestly, I could have done a WAY better job of the sharpening. It struggles to even cut paper and there are some very small nicks in sharpened areas of the blade.
Has anyone else experienced this?

I have experienced this sometimes it just gets missed no excuse though. I would call them and make arrangements to send back and see if they will cover postage.

I sent a slightly dull Emissary to Benchmade to see what they would do with it. It came back slightly sharper. Then I noticed there was a burr. I stropped about a minute. Then the knife was a lot sharper, but not sharper than most people here could have made it. But if somebody has better things to do than sharpen a knife, it seems like a useful service.

I sent it back for resharpening and am currently waiting for it to be delivered.
In the future if I have a knife that's seen heavy use I'd probably send it in for the cleaning and adjustment service and ask that they don't sharpen. I've since gotten a pretty good sharpening setup that I'm confident with.
I'm surprised they'd send you back a knife that still had a burr on it.

I had a huge issue with this about a year ago. I sent a knife with a recurve in for service, ad asked them to not sharpen it. Not only did they sharpen it, they completely mangled it. The recurve portion was now three straight edges joined at odd angles, instead of a single curve, and about 2/3 of the edge was very obvious and visible burrs. I contacted them and they made it right with a whole new lade, but it was very frustrating.

I've used their lifesharp program several times over the years, that was the first truly bad experience I've had though. They did make it right in the end, it was just a frustrating experience.

Lifesharp is great at fixing general condition and replacing parts, cleaning up corrosion, etc. but I would recommend that anyone who needs to sharpen their Benchmade learn to do it themselves.
