Lifesharp taking off to much meterial?

When you send a knife in to be sharpened rather than doing it yourself, it's a chance you take every time. Hard to tell based off the pictures as one is one set is on the dark side the other has the flats washed out with the reflected light. It does look like material has been removed, but how much you only know. Get yourself a Sharpmaker, all you need is to maintain the secondary bevel and that tool does it well.

I sent my 9050 AFO in two weeks ago, had a chip I didn't want to work out, they got the chip out, had to take a good bit of metal with it, but the sharpening was crap, worse than factory it was very rough, good angle, but it looked as though it was belt sanded till the chip came out and nothing else. It cleaned up good and I am happy that they fixed it but not impressed with there sharpening.

I would be more pissed someone etched "Hobbit Life" on my blade than sharpening at a higher angle than I expected.

I would expect any blade sharpened by powered equipment to result in more metal removed than required.

Same here. Not impressed with the sharpening job on my knives sent in.Looks like they use coarse belts to sharpen and even more disappointed with the job done on my 710,for some reason they lack the skill to sharpen to the recurve portion.

LOL :D

Benchmade is not exactly known for putting on a great edge, I wouldn't recommend sending it in for their deluxe belt sander sharpening service. If you have to send it in for other maintenance I'd even suggest wrapping a piece of painters tape on the blade and writing do sharpen to avoid your blade being violated.

You mean do NOT sharpen? :D sorry I couldn't help myself. Ok ill be quiet now.

It was my first time, I think mine had to lose some metal to get the chip out i'm not upset with the amount that came off but the coarse job they did on it, I love benchmade blades so I expected more out of the sharpening service, but I guess you get what you pay for and free... At least the edge was a good angle and sharp, just to rough for my liking, their out the box sharp is great so you'd figure they'd send it to the same place.

When reading these posts, I would rather sharpen my own. It appears as if we take better care of our equipment at the end of the day.
