Well, I just shipped off my beloved Benchmade 800HS in M2... Wish me luck. I'll be fretting over my baby until she comes home. I've MOSTLY heard great things about Benchmade's LifeSharp service. I will be happy to report how things turn out. I also took this opportunity to send in my old Eclipse while I was at it.

Anybody have any good stories to cheer me up while waiting for my knife to come back? LOL

while the lifesharp service they offer is a good thing, maybe while youre waiting for your knife to get back you could spend some time researching on the dos and donts when it comes to sharpening knives (assuming that you are new to this) and pick up a quality kit so you wont have to send it back next time.

*i apologize if you do sharpen your own and just wanted to take advantage of the Benchmade service.

No worries. I do sharpen my own. The main reason it is going back to Benchmade is to have the spacer replaced. The plastic spacer broke and I want to see if they can do something to keep the blade from rubbing on the liners when it is opened/closed. Initially, I planned on asking them not to sharpen it, but I was talked into letting them do so by a customer service rep. I guess that's part of the reason I'm worried. LOL

I sent in a Mini Barrage for LifeSharp before I sharpened my own. (My first Benchmade)

Not only did it get sharpened, They replaced the Omega Springs for me too!

I appreciate that companies like benchmade do offer a service like LifeSharp, but personally would never use it if only for sharpening. I have never met a factory edge I can't improve upon myself, and benchmade isn't exactly known for overly sharp edges. More than the disappointing sharpness though, my biggest concern is that factory sharpening jobs are often done quite quickly and on a belt sander. This leads to coarse, sometimes inaccurate grinds, and unnecessary steel loss. I guess I'd just rather do it myself.

Well, I just got an email from UPS saying that Benchmade shipped my knife out today. I expected to be without it for a few weeks to a couple months. The expected delivery date is next Friday. I'm excited to see what they did.

I shipped them my AFCK 800HS and my Eclipse. The AFCK had a cracked spacer and I didn't tell them not to sharpen it. The Eclipse needed to be cleaned and lubed... I have no idea how to take it apart...
Hopefully, they made it easier to open, too.

More updates to come.

They "rebuilt" my 940, sharpened it to a razors edge in a seven day turnaround.

I had my AFCK 800 hss m2 come back a couple of weeks ago ,they did a super good job.

While I haven't sent mine back for sharpening, it might make you feel a bit better to hear that the out of box sharpness of my Griptilian was able to shave my arm.
If you get it back anywhere near what mine was, you're gonna' be OK.

Just out of curiosity, did the AXIS lock still work with a broken Omega spring?

Yep, it worked with one spring. It just felt a bit softer. It was my first broken spring, and at first I wasn't sure if it was my imagination.

i have sent a few knives into benchmade for service. they are excellent. they had my mini persideo ultra back to me in about a week with new stronger omega springs, new screws and a an edge that scared the crap out of me. i myself think i put a pretty nice edge on a knife but this was shockingly sharp. it was an edge i would expect from an edge pro or wicked edge. not a machine

The guy I talked to on the phone convinced me to let them sharpen my knife. I had initially said that I didn't want them to. We'll see how they do. I hope to be suitably impressed. A shockingly sharp edge on an M2 blade should last quite a while. :)

Well, I got my knives back today.

I'm very impressed with what they did with the Eclipse. They cleaned the rust off. Everything is smoother. The knife is very sharp. The grind lines are nice and symmetrical. It looks great.

The AFCK, they cleaned up nicely. They replaced the black plastic spacer with silver barrel spacers. The blade is now perfectly centered and no longer rubs on the liners. I just wish I had not changed my mind about letting them sharpen it. The grind lines are asymmetrical and not even or smooth. It's sharp, but it has a much more acute angle on one side. Otherwise, it's fantastic.

Thanks for reading. :)
