Lifestraw

Pretty cool! At $5.00 each one could outfit his whole family. I wonder if they have a shelf life?

Very cool product. I just hope you don't end up collapsing your lungs trying to suck water through all those filters. I have enough trouble with malts!:D

That is a great idea, if you can actually suck water through it.

How long it lasts until it clogs up is naturally going to depend on how much particulate matter is in the water. McNett advertises "up to 20 gallons" for theirs, for whatever an "up to" claim is worth. Life of a filter can be extended by prefiltering. You could put a piece of coffee filter over the bottom end and rubberband it in place and just replace that as needed. Of course if there are a lot of particles small enough to suck through the coffee filter it'll still clog up pretty ast.

You can get ceramic filters that will last for years with maintenance (just scrape off the surface layer every time it gets clogged) but they cost more and are bulkier.

It is cool, but... I live in Louisiana, and if you haven't heard we have had a little storm come through a while ago. Judging on the water I saw around here, that thing would have to be good quality to not get clogged.

I would still buy one though.
