Light and Dark Coloring in Stainless Fixed Blade

I just picked up a fairly expensive stainless steel fixed blade from a well known company. It's brand new and I can notice some lighter and darker shading within the steel. I first thought it was streaking that you see in ss appliances, but these seem to disappear when cleaned. This looks like a dark then light then dark striping. I'm wondering if it could be uneven heat treating. This is the largest SS blade I own, but I don't see this in my other knives.

Any ideas what this could be, and is it a problem? Not sure I decide if it bothers me enough to return the knife.

Sorry for the re-post, but I think I posted this question in the wrong forum section.

I'm not sure if I'd be able to help, but you should post some pictures. I know someone around here can help.

Here is a photo of what I am seeing. Apologize on being secretive on the knife details, but I really don't what to give the knife co. any "bad press", especially if this is not really an issue. It may be hard to see in the photo and it almost looks like a reflection but it's not.

Thanks!!

Looking at the Randall Made site, I get the impression their blades are hammer-forged to rough shape, which (I think) may leave some of that 'layered' character in the finished blade. They have a very detailed description of their blade-making process on the site, featuring the carbon steel blades; no mention of the stainless process. I doubt there's any performance/quality issue with your blade, but I'm sure Randall would make it right if there was. You might contact them, if you have any doubt. They have a very long-standing rep for quality & support, so I don't think you have anything to worry about.
