Light color Spyderco FRN and stains?

Hi everyone,

I'm thinking about getting an Endura 4 FFG in gray, which is on the lighter side color-wise.

How practical is FRN in lighter colors when it comes to stains / dirt? Does it absorb coloring easily (e.g. jeans, indirect pen marks, etc.)?
How much of a hassle is to remove it?

Thanks!

It's plastic, the only way it would "absorb" color would be if the color was mixed with some type of volatile solvent and applied directly to it. So, if you write on it with a permanent marker, you'll have a problem getting the marks off. As for regular dirt and grime, light colors always tend to show them, but light color FRN Spyderco cleans up pretty easily with soap, water, and a stiff brush.

I don't think the FRN gray is that light. For example, the Cru Wear gray is much lighter.

@fetzer85 - I agree on Cru Wear; but I said that the gray color is on the light side, not that it is really light color.

@TheDeacon - thank you, that was exactly what I wanted to know.

The gray FRN does not stain or absorb colors in normal use. It gets about as dirty as the other textured FRN Spydercos, and has to be scrubbed with a toothbrush or similar tool one in a while. Even my black Salt 1 shows light colored dirt once in a while and I have to clean it off.

My blue Endura 4 started to turn very dark blue to black from pocket carry. Only on the side towards the bottom of my pocket. It will not clean off from normal soap and water. I personally do not mind it and like wear on my knives.

With that said I have not seen any of my other FRN Spydercos do the same thing.

No worries about FRN staining from normal use. What soap, hot water, and toothbrush won't get off, a 'Magic Eraser' pad will.

If all else fails, you can use RIT to dye it a darker shade or change to a darker color.
