I was looking at light filters the other day. I know what the beamshapers and red lenses do, but what do the BLUE lenses do? Do they serve the same purpose as the reds, by preserving night vision, or do they do something else?

Now, about that Emerson site...

When I was working for the county search and rescue team we sometimes used violet filters on our flashlights. The violet light tends to make textures stand out more. For example, make a foot print in the dirt, then shine the violet light on it at an angle; the foot print will REALLY show up (much more than with red or white light). Im not sure what the scientific reason is for this is but it works.

Never tried it, but doesn't blue light make blood look very black and contrast to surrounds?

Put a Red BeamFilter on a SureFire M6 and see if the nightvision of the person you shine it at is preserved!

If you can perceive color at all in the light you are using, your night vision will not be preserved. See THIS

Actually green light is best for preserving night vision, although again, it must be so dim that its' color is not perceived.
