new flashlight released by 5.11 tactical. uses no batteries, recharges in 90 seconds, 279 lumens high, 90 low, tactical strobe 270 lumens.

I suspect it uses a capacitor to store the charge, that would explain the 90 second recharge time and the 50,000 charge/discharge cycles.

I got one on order, i have to, this is right up my alley, now i can use my light all the time and recharge in in less than 2 minutes back to full power. I can only hope they make a brighter version, say around 500 - 1000 lumens

did i mention there is no needs for batteries?

I've seen the flashlight advertised for pre-order in LA Police Supply's catalog.
One thing not mentioned in the text (and that would definitely affect my purchase) is the runtime of the flashlight.

Do you know what the runtimes are in the various modes?

From what i gather its 90 minutes on high, but i could be wrong on that. Either way i dont care, , as a few minutes in the charger and its good to go. I think this technology will slam current flashlight thinking on its arse and change things. This is the tip of the iceberg, i forsee brighter and longer running lights in the future, using these super capacitors. Maybe a search light/....

bushman...went and played with this light at the local copshop. I like it...it's a little bulky for my needs but it looks as bright as the sun...
