Anyone have suggestions on a good, lightweight tent? Something I can hike in with. Probably looking for a 2 man, but would go up to a 4man if all the other features were awesome. (not a car camper here, I just wanna stay dry and bite free!) Just looking for the best bang for the buck, light, relatively easy to set up...not the absolute best tent. I'd probably max out at 150usd, but the cheaper the better. This tent would get used maybe 3-4x a year, though I would like to get out more. thanks.

I used a Eureka Timberline 2 for many years. It sounds like what you are looking for. Light, packs small, goes up easy. I see it is selling in the range of $100 - $130 around the web.
They also make a 4-man version, the Timberline 4, which sells for just a little bit more, still below your $150 limit.

The Eureka Tentagon 8 sleeps 4 is within your price range and weighs 8 lbs 6 oz.

I have a REI CampDome 2. ~$100. Then you buy a footprint or a tarp to pitch it on, pay any sales tax, etc. and you're closer to your price ceiling. This thing is very light < 5 1/2 lbs. average packaged weight. It has two doors which is great. The one drawback is the size. If you are more than about 6' tall I suggest you look for something else. Durability is also a question in your price range. Some have suggested that the poles that come with this tent are not the greatest. You can read the reviews on REI's site. Good luck and let us know what you find. -DT

You may also try posting in the Wilderness & Survival Skills subforum. Many of those guys do a lot of camping.

Try the Eureka Apex. I found one for $99 Its a two man tent and extremely light weight. It has two doors as well. I've used mine in rain, lite snow, and sunshine and it has held up great right out of the box. It packs up small too.

I have the Kelty Grand Mesa 2. It's really light -- I think about 3.5 - 4 pounds packed with poles, rainfly and all. you can find one for $100 give or take a few bucks easy.

Keep them coming guys. I am in the same boat as Dave but it will get used more. All the Eureka tents have nylon floors, correct?? Or do they have floors like a poly tarp??
