Light Weight Backpacking Set Up So Far...

This is my set up so far, consisting of the pack, shelter, and sleep system:

Gregory Z55, medium, 53oz

Warbonnet Blackbird Hammock 1.7, 30.24oz

Snow Peak Tarp, 20oz

Poncho Liner, 16oz

Silk Travel Sheet, 5oz

Total Weight: 124.24oz / 7.765lbs

The Snow Peak tarp will be replaced in the future with an OES Mac Cat Deluxe, SpinnUL, and should weigh ~9.4oz. I think the Snow Peak tarp weighs about 20oz; it could be more, I haven't weighed it.

I will use the Silk sheet/liner inside the hammock, and the poncho liner as an underquilt. This should get me through most, if not all of the year in Florida.

I chose the Z55 for its load carrying ability. I tested a few packs out over the weekend, and the Z55, although the largest of them, was also comfortable. Now, in the store, you can load it up with sand bags, and walk around, move around, lean over, etc. A better test is actually hiking with it...

Here's some other areas where I've ditched weight:

Flaslights: Before: Petzl Zippka & AA Maglight. After: Petzl Zippka & Photon Micro II.

Water: Before: 3L bladder & 2 1L Nalgene. After: 3L bladder & 2 Platypus 1L bottles. In addition, I've been practicing with my water filter, so I may be filling up more and carrying less.

These are just some of the basics; there are other areas to improve.

Do you always have trees to hang from? If not, do you have a "ground" plan?

Nice setup!

What about your knife? The Griptilian is pretty light for a folder of this size. Maybe a skeletonized neck-type knife, with a paracord handle...could be the best weight/edge ratio :D

I had to go look up your hammock because I was wondering what you were going to do about mosquitoes.:D

Where I go, there are almost always trees. In the event of going to ground, I can use the Blackbird hammock as a bivy. I forgot to add the Tyvek ground cloth to the list.

This isn't complete by any means. These are the things that I've done so far to reduce unnecessary weight.

Knives: SAK Climber, small-medium fixed blade, and I'm still thinking I want to leave the push-dagger on the shoulder strap of the ruck. Now, I could replace both the push dagger and the fixed blade with another fixed blade with a good retention system inverted on the shoulder strap.

I'm still on profile, and having lab work tested every 2-3 weeks. Kidneys are getting better. Since I can't do much outside, I've been building a gym routine for the past 3 weeks, consisting of 3 cardio days and 3 weight training days.

I'm shooting for a mid-November weekend backpacking trip, if the weather is cooler than mid-90's. Something super easy going, 5-6 miles in, camp, 5-6 miles out, maybe a 2.5mph pace.

I was trying to figure how you'd go out this late in the year with a poncho liner for warmth, but then I saw your location and it made sense.

You'll love the warbonnet, I love mine! I'd carry a half length of ccf if I were you though. Incase you need to go to ground, or incase temps dip below your comfort level.
