Hey everyone, first time posting on this forum. I usually hang around the knives. :)

Anyway, Anyone have any suggestions for a good summer boot? Steel toe would be nice but being breathable is a must. I'm getting tired of wearing big ol' winter boots in the summer and cooking my feet. Any input is welcome. I hope everyone is having a nice day so far.

Best summer footwear ever? Birkenstocks! I started wearing them 5 yrs ago and only go back to regular shoes in the winter.

Keen has a new pair of sandals, they are closed toe with a great rand, the leather is waterproof. I have heard they are the most comfortable thing around and are great for hiking with plenty of protection. Am ordering a pair this week from REI. They are on sale for $70. I post later with the model name, I've forgotten it right now.
:)

Sounds like your at a job that open-toed shoes won't work? Otherwise, I'm all about the Tevas, too ;) Don't have a good answer for you--my daily wear are gore-tex uninsulateds by bellevilleshoe (military). Work pretty good, but I'll tell you that if you can swing it (whatever you purchase)--get two pair. Switch them off everyday and let them dry out on the off day.

Best of luck and post back when you find something that meets the need--rather interested.

lonecenturion: haven't seen those, but they sound like they have some serious potential.

I have two pairs of Keens, they are the Newport models, one leather and the other one the H2 model. Man, they are sweet! Bascially, they have replaced my sneakers (in fact I'm wearing the H2's right now). I wear the leather Newports at work (building Shaker furniture) and have not had any problems. Throw on a pair of grey colored socks and nobody even notices they are sandals. And yes, they are a good buy for $70.00 from REI but that special runs out the end of this month(?) ..... so hurry.

Keens all the way man!
Mike

Thanks for the replys from everyone. After much looking around I think I'm going to have to go with the Keens. While the toe guard isn't steel it is at least something and is more than is offered by any other sandal out there.

Mike,

one leather and the other one the H2 model

Which one do you prefer? What is different between the two? The H2 looks like a more outdoor/tactical sandal while the leather looks more casual/formal. (Haha, if the words "formal" and "tactical" can be applied to sandals.) I'm kind of torn between the two and would like to hear a real world comparison. Which is more comfortable? Let me know.

I just got my Keen newport H2's yesterday. I really don't care for open toe sandals and these filled the bill between wearing a hiking shoe and sandals. I like them so much that I plan on buying the leather newports in Charcoal in the next few weeks. As far as comfort goes both sandals are exactly (footbed, liner) the same expect for the difference being nylon on the H2's and leather on the Newports.

Arrrgh! This forum costs me too much money. Between the knives, flashlights and watches, I thought it was expensive enough.

Then I caught this thread and picked up a pair of Keen Newports at REI yesterday.

Yep, they are the best sandals I ever had. I love the closed toe. I liked sandals but hated my toes exposed, especially walking around the city. Keens are the the perfect hot weather sandal. :)

I better stop reading now before I end up buying something else.

Those Bites look good but they don't have the full toe protection the Keens have. The Keens toe protector is very durable, very comfortable, and very, very strong.
