Micarta gets darker with use over time ***I think*** due to oils on your hands being absorbed. I don't know--maybe it's just dirt! :p

How does one go about bringing it back to the original factory look? In low light, the snakeskin slabs look almost black.

at work I blast mine with stinking hot water to clean the fat and sinew outta them and it comes up newish.

maybe try that or detergent

What do you do for work, Waldganger? Sounds like an interesting job when you get to clean fat and sinew out of your Busses.

put it in the dishwasher or use hot water with dish detergent and a dish brush.

.

Skunk really just has Vicki wash them for him, he doesn't know squat, oh wait, maybe he does, he sent a picture today.............

.

I have washed mine with warm soapy water and a scrub brush many times. It takes them right back to original after they dry, which doesn't take long.

eta: would it be a violation to use a certian smilie to mimmick scrubbing back in forth on the ol'e micarta?

eta2: it would be a great illustration.

What others have said (dishwasher soap, detergent) plus if they're really grubby I use an electric toothbrush to get into the nooks and crannies. Works wonders!

Waldganger - you're making me hungry with that picture - I need breakfast!

I'd love to see Dave Brown do some butchering with an AK47. Bet he could make a whole lot of hamburger, real quick!

I try to not clean the scales on my TAN/TAN EDC MrS too clean. It has taken on a great color, almost a reddish/brick brown tint.

I was thinking the same thing sometimes when they get dirty they really start to look good!

And to get crinkle coat SUPER clean...spray with oven cleaner...I thought it might strip it, but it actually just super cleans it!

I'm a butcher Lazlo, and I use my recreation knives as often as I can to see how suited they would be when I go hunting.

Im a Butcher too!:D I tried out one of my Skinny Ash's at work the other day,
I used it to cut up some beef roast's & some NewYork & ribeye steaks,
The skinny Ash worked great!!!
