Hello all,
I recently bought a Windmill Delta lighter and when it ran out of gas I replaced it with some stuff I bought in a convenience store. Now however it runs awful, sometimes requiring 2 clicks to start it up and then not stopping immediately when I release the plunger.

Is there a better quality gas available or do you think my Delta is a dud?(It worked flawlwssly before the refill) Has anyopne tried the butane/propane mix camping stove gases, or the Coleman power gas?

Lava fuel is the best.
Look on the cigar sites for it.

Poor starts and slow stops are symptomatic of the nozzle being a little clogged, probably with combustion products. You might have to find some little cleaning wires to ream them out. A technique I've heard works sometimes is to blow fuel BACKWARDS into the nozzle. To do this, you stick the end of the fuel can into the nozzle instead of the normal fuel entry port. Don't try this with the lighter lit of course...

Use a good gas, it helps, but even with a good gas, the nozzle may get dirty eventually...

No matter what you do, no matter how clean or refined the fuels is, it will clog and become useless very shortly, so I hope you spent no more than 10 us dollars on your lighter. Zippo's are the only thing that last forever... Simply my opinion though.

Im with The above poster, My zippo has NEVER failed me under any conditions. And one of my friends has gone through literally 20 butane lighters and then he finaly gave up and bought a zippo, just get a zippo, they are cheap and they will work forever, I have one of my dads thats dates 1941 that his dad had in WW2, it works smoother than the one i bought just last year.

i have had my colibri for over a year now, w/no probs, and have another cheapie refillible that has lasted over 2 - that said some buds have had probs w/refillibles,and it is an art i think to the way ya hold the can/press it down to refill, ya cant push to hard or the gas just sprays everywhere lol- zippos are great but i never could get past the taste they impart to the smoke....but they do work 100%, last long between refills, and are pretty windproof imho - also cheap to buy (usually)

Bob, I have never tried to see how long my Zippo burns but it lasts longer in winter than summer. Probably because of evapouration of the fluid in summer when not lit. My Zippo is 65 years old and it still works fine. The only thing I have had go wrong is the pin holding the lid on fell off. I fixed that with a paper pin I inserted and cut off with a SAK on a camping trip about five years ago. I have never bothered to replace it with an original pin. If you don't mind liquid fuel and replacing flints....ZIPPO'S ARE THE BEST.

Hello all,
Thanks for your input. The (*&^*&^*&%^!!! Windmill bit the dust the other day and I'm going to get a Zippo. I have seen a 3rd party reservoir that greatly improves the evaporation or lack thereof. It also increases the capacity thus increasing the burn time. Does anyone have one of these?
