Hello guys:)

The PPT is a knife that has always intrigued me.
I really like the looks of it but it has a few flaws that prevents me from buying it!
The issues i refer to are, like on the Para1, the sticking tang when closed...

...and it's weight!

Being a medium/small knife, 5,3oz seems a bit too heavy for EDC:(
However i once saw a vid of a well knowened "knife pimper" that made the proper adjustments to it!

You can see it after the 3.00min mark

I would really like to see these things taken care of so i could finally buy Spyderco PPT!

So, do you think it's possible for Spyderco to make these kind of adjustments?
What are your thoughts on this?

Thanks for looking:)

Is 5.3oz really that much more notable than say 3 or 4? For me and most people the weight feels no different once in the pocket in fact I'm not even really conscious it's their it just disappears in my pocket.

I think someone has been watching to much nutnfancy.

it's true that i never handled it so i'm not speaking of personal experience.
however lots have complained about the weight so that's why i mentioned it:)
the tang factor is a concern though!
I really don't like it and it gives the knife a weird look like the original para when closed.
if they fixed it with the para2 why noy do it also on the PPT?

In general, there is a definite difference in the pocket between 3oz and 5 oz knives, but I think that is because weight differences in those cases correspond to the difference of various dimensions beyond weight. For instance, the Gayle Bradley at about 5 ounces feels like a brick in the pocket compared to the Caly 3.5 at a bit over 3 oz, but it isn't so much the weight as the difference in thickness of the scales.

That said, the modified version looks no less thick, perhaps thicker, than the stock version. For that reason I wouldn't buy that version over the stock. I would be all over an anorexic PPT with steel or titanium handles (i.e., no G10).

The weight is really negligable as far as I am concerned. The tang in the closed position isn't a problem either as the knife is only designed to be tip up. Not like you are going to get your finger caught on it or anything. Those really aren't issues that would require fixing in my book. Seriously, all knives can't be designed the same way or have the same weight, otherwise everything would look identicle.

I have a PPT and I would venture to say neither of those changes are necessary. It was clearly designed with some sort of SD application in mind, so that rearwards weight from the giant spacer helps with balance and using it for bludgeoning, and the exposed tang is such a subjective issue that it's really not worth fixing. I honestly never noticed it.

I had a ppt in my rotation for some time. The weight never really bothered me it was the thickness of the handles and the sharp edges that made the knife less than ideal for regular use. I kinda liked the weight gave the knife some authority.

I have had two PPT's. I can't remember either having stickly locks. Nor should they. The liners and frame are not titanium. As far as weight, I could carry the half pount Zero Tolerance 0200 around just fine.

I guess I'm in the camp that finds the weight of the PPT negligible. Between the profile of the clip, and the fact that it's canted against the general line of the grip, I find the knife to be very "low impact" in the pocket -- it sits extremely deep, and tucks away toward the back of the pocket, where it sits quite unobtrusively. In fact, it's often my knife of choice when wearing dress slacks. I find that for those style pockets, the knife has less projection than even much slimmer knives of a different configuration.

As noted by others, the PPT is basically designed for rough defensive use, so I'm assuming it's over-designed in this regard. I have to say, it balances beautifully and has a comforting heft in the hand.

Now -- having said that, it prolly wouldn't be my choice for ultralight backpacking... :D

go custom, PPT means Perrin, Perotti and Thiel.

Sacha Thiel can make you any variation you want, all Titanium, G10 and titanium framelock, linerlock, cabon fiber .... whatever. the price won't be the same, though, you can't get everything for 100$

Sometimes the only way to get what you want is to pay the "my way" tax. This may be one of those times, since I really doubt Spyderco is going to redesign the PPT. IMHO, your best bet would be to contact the person who made that video, or someone else, and have them mod your PPT.
