Ok here is the deal, i already think a zippo is the best all around lighter, and i will always carry one. What im looking for is a lighter that i will carry as well as a zippo, it needs to be:

- Waterproof
- Low maintenance
- Gas(butane)
- Hot enough to solder with(i figure if im gunna have a gas lighter might as well get a good one that has many uses)
- Indistructable
- Reliable

So what am i looking for? price is under $100 Canadian(call it 60$ US) Thanks guys!

I think you are asking too much, if somebody else knows of something with everything you want, I´ll be interested.

As a comment in gasoline lighters, I have Zippo and Imco and generally find them just as good, but the Imco costs much less.

I don't know soldering, so I don't know what temperature you need.
Will you be soldering on the road? I doubt it, so you might want to get one soldering iron and one lighter.
I do know that there are some nice butane torches out there that aren't too big. I doubt they are truly waterproof, but if you can keep the water out another way (Ziploc?) then you should be fine.

Thanks robert, both of those seem like they are in line with what i am looking for. Has anyone else bought one? are you happy with them??? any problems?

I have the Helios. The fuel/air mixture needs to be adjusted frequently at 7,000 ft + depending on weather conditions. It stops working at 9,000 + ft. At low elevations it works great.

I'm a fan of the original Blazer PB-207. You can't find it easily in Canada anymore, but I know that they still sell it in the UK (anyone ever try to order one from overseas?).

It doesn't fit the waterproof bill, but other than that it should meet all of your other requirements (I carry mine in a waterproof Otter box when I go fishing.

Be aware of the imitations though, they don't last. I bought my Blazer in March of '97 and have refilled it at least a dozen times.

You tried windmill lighters...i've got the Delta version and everyone says it's like a grenade...

I think they've got new version ones that'll take more fuel and is more robust...
