I hope you folks aren't getting bored with my posts. Been on a roll - just finished this yesterday. Its for my first Japanese customer who wanted a forged fighter with a brown Micarta handle. I think this is one of the cleanest pieces I've made. A bit of Flournoy, Bagwell, Covington and Matt Lamey influences all thrown in for a very light, quick piece.

Specs - Hand forged 1095, 8inch blade, chisel ground unsharpened clip. hamon, 1500satin hand rub, blued mild steel collar, grooved asymmetric guard (I might use this as my signature style now) Black linen Micarta spacer, mortised, mated, polished Brown canvas Micarta.

Additional shots, shows the size of the tang for max strength. 5inch tang on an 8inch blade, 0.95inch wide just behind the blade shoulders.

Dramatic shot, makes the blade look bigger than it actually is...

Thanks for looking, and feedback, good or bad, is always appreciated. Cheers. Jason.

Jason...that is a great looking Bowie!

I am trully humbled that you mentioned my name in the post with such fine bladesmiths.

Yawn. Wake me when you make something that sucks. Then maybe THAT will get my attention! :D Another EXCELLENT job. The word "clean" comes to mind. Until someone mentioned that they liked one of my recent knives because it was "clean" I didn't really get what that word means to a maker. Wow! I am not a huge bowie fan, probably because I haven't made one, but that thing kicks butt. When I see bowies the ones I really like are the ones that look made to be used. The hamon is great, guard and the little spacer are cool. Do you still see patients, or are you doing this full time?

Thanks for the replies, everyone.

NOt trying too hard to kiss-a$$... but I want to give credit to my influences where its due. I find myself agreeing with many things Bagwell has to say about knives, and though I've never met you in person, Greg and Matt, you both seem to be the most available "devotees" and representatives of Bagwell-styled knives on the forums. Also, what I've read about your knives inspires me - that you both make knives that are used by folks going in harms way (the ultimate test of man and knife). I also make knives for our local armed forces, but they generally seem to prefer a slightly different design - less Bagwell-like and more like the Randall #1 or #14. Like this one - (this isn't what I make for military use. Those look a little different and I'm not allowed to show pics of those. :( Fair enough.)

Thanks again. Jason.

Enjoy looking at that one, very nice, love how the edge is fairly straight
out until near the tip, quite useful I'm sure!

Very nice job there, thanks for sharing!

I really like the overall look of this knife. Smooth is a good way to describe it. The collar is a nice touch. That guard has definitely become recognizeable as coming from you.
