Lightfoot has play...

Similar problem to Peaceful Jeff in another post, I noticed my new Lightfoot Max Velocity had a little play in the blade when open. I tightened the screw through the pivot, and it helped a bit, but then it was too stiff to open.

Next, I loosened it, again -- too loose. Tightened it up, and now I still have the play, but in the closed position, the blade is pushed laterally in the handle (by the locking mechanism).

I notice the ... bushings (?) are yellow plastic. I wondered, does anyone know, can the blade easily be taken out and thicker bushings put in to eliminate the play, but leaving the knife easy to open?

Other ideas?

Am I being too picky? Comparatively, my Marzitelli folder has no such play, and it operates more smoothly.

Thanks in advance.

I don't know what type of knife that is but..I don't think a small amount of blade play is anything to worry about.

Thanks for your comment R-Riley.

Here's a link to the Lightfoot page: http://www.lightfootknives.com/

And, as I noted, my model is the Max Velocity. Truly a terrific looking knife, to my eye, and the way it feels in the hand is (so far) unsurpassed. I was just worried about the bit of play, but don't want bother sending it in if it really isn't a problem. However, if I can tweak it a bit without making a big mess....

Send it back to greg and have him check it out/clean/sharpen im sure he does that.

I don't call it picky to worry about play on a folder, particularly a quality custom knife that's brand new. I'd give Greg a call or email and describe the problem. He may just say "send it in" and, if that's the case, I'm confident he'd straighten it out for you.

Thanks for the tip, Juj'

I thought I'd get an extra tork screwdriver, so that I could work with both sides of the pivot. Loosened it up, centered the blade, and tightened it up again. Voila, I got the play out of it, it's smooth opening and closing, and not too stiff when initiating the opening. If it loosens up again, I'll give Greg a call.

Sure is a nice knife.

I sure have caught some kind of a bug with this knife thing. Bought one little Spyderco, a couple years ago, got curious and then ... fatal move -- I found this, and another forum, and got hooked into reading, and away I go.

A strange fixation! Now, to complement this great Lightfoot of mine, as well as the Marzitelli I got last year, I'd like something a little smaller, flatter, mild-mannered looking, discrete, for when I'm at the office -- Sebenza comes to mind...

I appreciate the help and tips from you guys, here, and throughout the whole forum.
