Got a Lightfoot 'Catch Dog' a few weeks ago for an every-day carry knife but I soon discovered that its size, shape, and sound when locking open seems to intimidate everyone around me. LOL :o This IS a sweet knife! I like it a helluva lot and I'll definitely hang on to it but I don't want to get into some sort of trouble, especially with any LEO's ("Yes, 911? there's this guy brandishing a big shiny pointy knife, help...!" Can you see the scenario? LOL), so I decided to snag the smaller sized 'M1 Spearpoint' that was listed at KnifeArt.com for a more urban-friendly EDC...
... The knife arrived on Friday and I haven't been able to put it down! VERY sweet knife. Flicks open, locks solid, and the sound is much less intimidating than the larger, heavier 'Catch Dog'... But this smaller blade is not to be underestimated! This one is definitely my favorite of the 2.
--->'Catch Dog' = 4" blade & 9" overall; weighs 5.8oz
--->'M1 Spearpoint' = 3.25" blade & 7.5" overall; weighs 4.2oz
Both have stainless BG-42 steel blades.

I've never seen another version of the 'M1' before but I found some pix of other Lightfoot knives that may have led to the creation of this 'Spearpoint'...

The handle and bolsters on my 'Spearpoint' are a little different from the 'M1' above; instead they look exactly like the handle and bolsters on this 'Max Velocity' shown below. (Carbon Fiber & Blasted titanium)

The blade grind on my 'Spearpoint' looks closest to this 'Lightfoot Compact Combat' with a 3" blade, shown below, but seems to be ground from a regular 'M1' blade. Slightly different if you look hard, maybe 1/8 inch longer in blade size?? :)

Has anyone else seen or handled one of these 'M1 Spearpoints'?
Comments and information welcome. Thanks for viewing!

If you like large folders then you'll love the 'Catch Dog'. It certainly is worth owning and I still carry it out here in the 'burbs. If you find one, get it! You won't be disappointed. :)

Don't tempt me. I had seen them other places with a different blade profile and didn't like em. (I don't like a ton of belly on a knife and I DO like a pointy tip) I do like the profile on yours though. Looks more like a tanto which I dig.:thumbup: I like your top pic too.:thumbup: Might be time to add a Lightfoot to the stable.:)

I have 3 now... Love 'em all! I have 2 folders and a fixed-blade. Tanto, yeah, I like tanto's too. I personally call it a 'spearpoint tanto tip' on this 'Catch Dog' (Is there an official term for this style of tip?), as the tip looks to be centered on the blade instead of the traditional tanto. This 'Dog has a slight recurve shape too. I like recurve blades :D

This is the third Lightfoot , it's a 'Woodsman XJ' fixed-blade with the desert ironwood handle.

I'm new to the custom knife 'scene', but I lurked on this site for awhile, learning and absorbing a LOT about customs, quality, and those knifemakers with excellent reps. Many names to sift through, but Lightfoot, Begg, Onion, Martin, plus a few more were consistantly & quickly posted to the question(s), "Whose knive are worth owning?" So far in my experience, a Greg Lightfoot custom is definitely true to all the praise I've heard around this forum about his blades. 2 :thumbup: 's up for Lightfoot Knives! Grab one up! I think you'll dig it, if not, you shouldn't have too much trouble selling it for the same price depending on it's condition.

Someone tell Greg that I want a discount for gettin' caught speakin' the truth about his awesome customs here! LOL :D :thumbup: ...Please?! ;)
