Hello, I am interested in anyone's reaction or feelings concerning the Timberline/Lightfoot Pistol Grip model. It doesn't seem like it's been very popular, but I think the design looks very interesting.
Thanks. I tried posting this in the knive review forum, but I didn't get any info, so I thought I would try here. thanks.

Never handled one of these, but I thought the idea fairly similar (THE SAME AS...) the now d/c Ayoob-Spydie. Personally, I don't want my knives to feel like my pistols, because the tools are used so differently.

I was in Savannah, GA a few days ago and I got the chance to check one out at a shop in the Savannah Mall. It's a relatively new model so I don't think that many have had the chance to see it yet.

Anyway, the knife is made in Taiwan and has a hefty feel to it. Quality on the knife ranks along the likes of CRKT. In fact, the knife could have easily been mistaken for CRKT release, except for the Timberline logo on the blade.

The grip feels quite comfortable and does feel like you're holding a small pistol. The blade is bead-blasted AUS8 and comes in plain or 50/50 combo edges and the pocketclip is fixed for tip up carry. Being a Greg Lightfoot design, the pocketclip looks alot like the one used on the Microtech LCC and can be removed if the user wants. Like the LCC, the Timberline Pistol Grip sports bolsters which are very well done and the blade locks open via linerlock with no hint of play in any direction.

Unlocking the blade initially takes a bit of getting used to because of the handle's design, but once done a few times, it becomes easy. Overall, I found it to be a nice piece and I was tempted to buy one at the store, but I rather buy online for less than pay full MSRP.

Thanks for the info.
I did a search earlier, but nothing came up.
It should have. wierd.

I like the design. I think its actually more like some Laci Szabo designs, with did the pistol grip thing before the Ayoob was around TTBOMK.
It doesnt work great for my prefered pikal (edge in reverse grip), but as a forward grip knife that "cant" of a pistol grip helps with blade control, and it makes thrusting a lot more natural, you dont have to "break" the line of your wrist so much to achieve a thrust, similar almost to using a push dagger.
It also puts the blade out there a little better for slashing, so, again, you dont have to cock your wrist forward so much.

Mmmmmmmm....Laci Szabo designs.. Satin you know better than to get me started on forward grippers like this puppy..

I haven't had a chance to play with this one yet but it's definately on my must have list. Will post a review when I get a chance. It looks grippy I'll give it that. Good stout looking blade. Oh yeah I'll take one home next time I see one.

Hello Walking Man:

I bought one, and I like it. It's very solid, especially for it's size: Liner is substantial and engages just the right amount to grab yet account for wear. The blade is thicker than one would expect for this size knife. I can hone this knife on my sharpmaker and razor strop to a very nice edge, which it seems to hold well for general chores.

I'm a lefty, but don't find the clip to get in the way of opening.

The handle shape tends to lock the knife into your hand--which I like. You get a very good indication of the point coming in line.

I showed it to a friend in the cutlery business who commented on the fit and finish.

Overall, I'm pleased I bought this one. I like it as an addition to my EDC rotation.

Best regards.

I have had one for a few months and yes it feals great in the hand... however, it is a heavy knife if you are needing an EDC (http://www.discountcutlery.net/en-us/dept_21521.html says 0.4 lbs!).

I also tend to 'wrist-flick' my knives open and found that I had to take it apart, make a few mods (bending of lock etc) before it would perform nicely.

So in point form,
a)feals great in hand
b)opens easily if you use your thumb
c)easy to sharpen
d)is slightly heavy
