LIGHTFOOT's first TALONITE and STELLITE 6K KNIVES

I just received the talonite lightfoot pitbull blade style knife and stellite 6k full size predator knife. These are the first talonite and stellite knives he's worked. He did not have any problems and found it fairly easy to work. This is evident by the high polish on both blades, which really impressed me.

The fit and finish of both of these knives is second to none. The blades are polished to perfection. Unfortunately, I don't have my scanner or digital camera here so I can't post pics. Maybe I can take some pic's and send them to someone to post.

Before I sent the two bars to Lightfoot, there was a considerable difference between the two in finish. The talonites outer finish was very poor with the roll marks still on the talonite and a rough finish. The stellite 6k on the other hand came with a much better finish. Now I cannot tell the difference between the two as they look better finished than most knives I have seen. You can see his style of knives at his site.
I fully recommend his work, especially considering that he didn't find it difficult to work with either talonite or stellite.

All I can say is that his knives are great user blades with excellent fit and finish.

Check his site out at:

Actually, both lightfoot and kit carson knives really suck. I want you all to believe this so that I don't have to wait to get future orders in. The less people they are making knives for, the better for me.

WooHOO! Lightfoot.....Talonite!

Read this Jake?

OK. I'm pissed. I didn't know anything at all about his plans to use Talonite and Stellite, and I've been to his site recently and I saw him at the CKG show earlier this month. Gee whiz, I've been looking for two, and if I'd known Greg was making the plunge I'd have put in an order, but recently I blew the budget on two other talonites, although I'm sure they'll be incredible too. Plus Greg doesn't seem to be on email now. Probably too many messages taking him away from his work. Greg, if you're out there: no fair! A talonite double ground predator or Sierra... O my, what might have been

BTW, I strongly concur about Greg's work. His folders are super tough and universally admired too, but there is something special about the line and feel of the fixed blades. His predator [and predator backup] were the first customs I ever bought. The Predator is still, to my eye, a very beautiful knife, and superbly balanced, quick and strong. In talonite or stellite, Lightfoot's knives must be absolutely amazing.

Jim sounds good, thanks.

Cliff, no, he did not have time due to the Blade show comming up, but he has an opinion based on the grinding of the stuff.

HJK, he has had those bars for a while. I sent him the bars a year ago, but told him to hold off on them, due to my not being available for a while. When I reappeared I called him and kit to let them know I hadn't skipped town, which I'm sure they would not have minded, since they had my stellite and talonite.

All I can say is that he can make a knife out of anything without a problem and his designs are awesome. His sheaths are also excellent. They hold the blades tight, yet easy to unsheath. I wore both yesterday into a Southern California Mall local knife shop that I frequent. I had the knives concealed under my teeshirt, and the wore comfortable.

I also happened to meet James Rodebaugh from Oak Hills Forge at the store. Nice guy. He had some knives with him, that he had made. Very nice looking hunter/skinner style forged, flat ground blades. He asked me to give his regards to "bcaffrey" on here. I said, why, that guy buys cheapo Indian Khukuri's and engraves H.I. on them to sell them for $100 more. He's a phony balogna. James said not to be to hard on bcaffrey since he has 20 children to feed

Gregs an all right guy. Talked to him about a year ago at the western Canadian Symposium for a couple hours. When he's not grinding or training he's in the outdoors hunting or testing knives. I'll hopefully see him in June and bend his ear about an e mail address. It's 2000 he should get updated. High tech knives no tech comunications.

Ya, he's just an alright guy, whatever that means. He is more than alright when it comes to blade design and I have not seen any other canadian blade maker who makes nicer knives. And he will work any steel, just like Kit. I think Mayo-nese will also and several others in america.

Cobalt,

Better not look at Brian Tighe or Wally Hayes' stuff in that case!

I have a Neck Razor by Lightfoot in BG-42 and it's a pretty nice little neck knife, though the grinds were off (surprisingly).

I contacted the dealer that I purchased from, told him about it, he checked the others he had, (Neck Razor, C4) and found the same "flaws" as I had described on each of them.

Don't get me wrong, doesn't change the functionality, just fit and finish.

Now, the Tighe Neck ALO on the other hand, I'm hard pressed to find a hint of a flaw.

Bottom line, there are a lot of fine makers out there (including Lightfoot whose designs I have always admired).

If you want to know about some great Canadian knifemakers, the three best ways are to visit the CKG site on the net, visit one of the CKG semiannual shows or Wolfgang Loerchner's summer show[there is also a show in Calgary I haven't been to], or check out the Canadian forum right here on BFF. Greg is Mr. Tactical, and an awesome killer of wild pigs when the spirit moves, Brian is a consummate artist and his workmanship is immaculate, and Wally Hayes is a genuine ABS Master and I'm just a very big fan - 'nuff said. I will say that he has tacticals too that should be on his site soon. But there are quite a few more, many of whom grace these threads. T. Haslinger, George Tichbourne, Rick Frigault [whose work I have seen but have not yet had the pleasure of using], and others, to whom I apologize for not mentioning specifically. Check them all out.
But so far, not many pieces up here in Talonite or Stellite. Sniff, sniff...

Canadians need to get themselves some Best Buy computers. They are literally giving them away. Pentium 400's with printer 15" monitor, and accesories for $600 minus $599 in rebates, in some cases. I told Greg this, but am not sure how much the customs fees are.

HJK, what is the url for the site?

Blues, agreed with your final comment. In fact some great ones in bladeforums.

Never meant to leave out any of the other fine Canadian bladesmiths, was just mentioning a couple that came immediately to mind.

Cobalt, here are a few worthwhile sites:

You should be able to find some fine makers and knives by using these sources.

The Grinds on all Gregs Knives are now impecable..
The new batch of all his Millenium Blades are Awesome and grind lines on the new Sierra's were flawless..

At the Canadian Knife Makers Guild show in Toronto this year, the Sierra II won the "Best Tactical Knife Award" by the Guild.
