i have the Coghlan's 1005 Flint Striker and its really thick and the strikers pretty good but i haven't been able to really start anything besides some cotton balls is there some trick or is it just really hard. help would be nice. thanks.

The guy in this review had trouble too ... get yourself a LMF firesteel.

Coghlan's quality can be quite sketchy.

A handy trick with ferro rods, is to use charcloth. Fold the cloth over the back of the knife and strike through the cloth onto the rod. The edge will cut the cloth and contact the ferro, but the spark gets trapped by the cloth where you can blow it into life.
