Sorry I've been offline for a few days, guys....we got hit with an ice-storm pretty bad.

The neighbor's tree fell on our powerline....:(

And I've been pretty much "iced-in" unable to get to the shop until this morning.

Thanks to all those who have been patient with this strange turn of events...

Mother Nature leaves no calling card!

Hey Dan?

The wife and I and our neighbors had to chainsaw our way to the main road yesterday:thumbup:

Power has been off since day before yesterday evening and I'll be suprised if it's on by the weekend.

The only good thing is since we have "city" water when the power goes off we still have water, natural gas heat so we have to use flashlights, kerosene lamps and hand crank lamps and radios.:D

I am hearing 3-4 more days before power at my house. But I am staying with my parents who have generators etc.

Check this out, guys...

I was getting a bit fed up....called my Dad (electrical engineer) to have him tell me how stupid it would be to try to "take matters into my own hands"....and to help keep me from doing it anyway...:foot:

As I was contemplating this...and chatting on the phone, I saw a power truck go zippin' down the road.

I literally ran out in the road and flagged them down.

They were 'perusing the neighborhoods'....looking to see how bad things were. But looking back now...I'm convinced they would have kept on going....even after seeing my line clearly down in the backyard.

I managed to talk them into having a second look...a bit closer up. :D

About 2 hours later...I got my power restored.

Man, what a great feeling it was.

Unfortunately, I still have the neighbors limbs in my backyard and on the fence...

But, I think I'll be positive....and consider this an "opportunity"....to either:

1 - buy a chainsaw (got any recommendations?)
2 - break out some kukris and get my game face on (more gratifying, of course)

what say ye?!?

Dan

I am hearing that Chainsaws are fairly hard to find but they may be easier to get around B-ville but I am guessing there isn't much of a selection. I say you grab a kukris or better yet one of those Survivors and start hacking away.

looking at Stihl...as well as Husqvarna...

Let me know what you guys think.

If I can't find a good one...might just go out there with a circular saw.... :D :p

Welcome back Dan!
I usually don't hang out here but, while you were away, I traded into my first Koster. A sweet little K5 in D2.
So far I'm loving this thing. Now I must get a bushcrafter.

Glad to hear you got your power back... now get back to work, those BushMasters aren't going to make themselves ! ;):D

Can't hardly go wrong with a Stihl. I have a little 009 and really like it. Small and actually old technology but a good handy saw to have around. I've had bigger (360 pro was one that I remember) but I just didn't use them as much as this little 009.

I have a couple of Stihl saws. My dad is still using the 041 farm boss he bought back in 1978. It has probably bucked around 200 cords of fire wood in that time. He has had to fix it every so often, and it isn't the original cut bar, but it is still at least 80% original and still runs fine.

Get a Pouland WoodShark... $110 at WalMart. 33cc engine - 14 inch bar.
I got mine several years ago for $75 so they have gone up in price. But I have used the crap out of mine and it just keeps on going.
