Lightweight 15" Ang Khola: Very different from the BAS as a Fighting Blade?

Hi, y'all.

I just received my first real khukuri (not counting an Atlanta Cutlery model I had till I threw it away). I wanted an all around weapon/tool and from my research here at Bladeforums I decided that due to it's size and lighter weight that the BAS would be my best bet and I ordered one. Turns out they were out of the BAS but the nice lady told me that she had a beautiful 15" AK that weighed 20 ounces and that she would send it to me, and if I didn't like it I could return it for the BAS when they become available. I just received it and it does feel very good in the hand, and weighs the same as the advertised weight for the BAS. If it's lighter weight means that it's pretty much the same as the BAS then I'll keep it, but there may be other factors involved that I'm not aware of that would make the BAS a better weapon.

I would appreciate any input from from the seasoned hands here on this forum. And for the record, no, I don't plan on getting into any fights with it, I just like the idea of owning a good bladed weapon.

Thanks.

Like Howard said, there aren't any fullers in the BAS. This probably makes it a little less forward heavy than the AK, but a 20 ounce AK will do just fine if you really needed a quick blade in the hand. You can't go wrong with either, but since you already have the AK... :)

Peh21,

Welcome to the forum and the nice lady just helped you to upgrade a little bit.
The AK , together with BAS is a proven design.
If anything could be asked, your AK is a wish-come-true with reduced weight.

Please give us a review once you decided to use it.

The profile of an AK is very good for fighting, IMO, the only thing that usually holds them back is their weight. With the lightweight ones recently, I think they'd make a dandy fighting blade. I also much prefer them aesthetically over the BAS.
