Quick question. I'm designing a lightweight knife, but I've only worked with leather sheaths to date.

Is there is a significant difference in overall weight between leather and kydex? Of course I hear that kydex is lightweight, but leather sheaths aren't exactly heavy. Just checking to see your opinions on this.

Thanks guys.

I think it depends on what you mean by significant.

Significant difference when compared to each other? Absolutely. Significant different to the user? Maybe not.

It will also depend on the leather or kydex you use. You can make some fairly heavy-weight kydex sheaths and depending on fasteners, you could approach or pass the weight of leather. But, I doubt you'd be looking to use a particularly heavy kydex sheath, so it's not as relevant.
