_Lightish_ in weight, that is.

Any suggestions for a knife, with say ATS-34/154cm steel, which is lightweight?
Well okay a steel better than the 420HC in my Bucklite Max. Oy.
Modest $ I have. OK, a so-so amt.
Yes I probably will have to settle for size somewhat on the small side. (Three or 3.3 inches, closed, is not the best handle for grasping
but can accept that.)

I like my Bucklite Max in many ways, except the edge IMHO is chipping .:(

thanks in advance

What is moderate $? <50 will not get you 154CM

20-40, get CS Medium Voyager in AUS8
40-60, get Buck Vantage Pro in S30V or Mini Grip in 154CM or Delica in VG10

And BTW what are you doing to 420HC to make it chip? In all reality, any "higher end" steels will probably chip before 420HC which if I remember correctly should be at about 0.6% carbon? Could be a poor heat treat or something, but no 420HC has ever chipped on me

check some of these out....benchmade griptilian-154cm or spyderco endura-VG10 or buck vantage pro-s30v

For staying under 3 ounces I would pick a Cold Steel Hold Out III, Counter Point II or Spyderco Native FRN, Delica. 3" blades with decent handles. If you really want smaller than that just get one of the tiny Spyderco models - they have always had the best quality tiny folders.

Benchmade 530 is very lightweight, has 154cm and is available for around $65 if you know where to look.

Vantage Pro finallly came to seem a bit too many grams.

Thanks Matt, nevertheless -- will check the endura-vg10 out.

Thanks all for the good information :)

I'm checking out the several knives recommended.
I'd done virtually nothing to my Buck knife -- well, it could not have been very dern much. I've had it a month, used it for light things (all's I remember) and now am noticing the irregularity. Not sure it is chipping, um .. possibly a wavering at the edge. The kind of thing I understand that stopping evens out.

A Benchmade for the amt I.Moniker mentioned surprises me. I'm encouraged.
The steel type I named in my _original post_ was with the thot it is cheaper than CPM S30V. But now I don't know.

The Vantage Pro I had I kinda' thought was a bit heavy

again, thanks very much
Paul
