In the years I've been flipping, I've only had a few different knives. Alright, I'll just say it, I've only owned those $20 cheapie balis. Every one of them has had the nail-for-a-pin conversion so they don't fall apart on me (Thanks for the tip Clay). So they've all been heavy and, well, not so nice. BUT, I have a BM42 on the way and I just can't keep from asking questions.

I've read a lot on how light they are because of the Ti. I've also read it'll probably take some getting used to. But how does it compare with aerial o/c, finger-twirls etc... I know it'll hold up physically, but when it comes to the actual manipulations themselves, why Ti?

So far, there seem to be many more people that love the 42 than hate it.

I have to be honest and say that when I first handled it, I wasn't too thrilled (to say the least). Weight was a huge issue, but I also liked my Balis to have wide handles.

My philosophy is: Heavy Balis should have wide handles.

Thats one problem I always had with my BM45's. The weight was there, but the narrow handles made it hard to control when I was "pushing my luck".

The 42 on the other hand has the perfect balance of light weight and narrow handles. Once you get familiar with them you can really FLY. Aerials are a breeze and finger rolls take on a whole new life.

I totally agree with Clay about this. When I first got my BM-42 I was concerned by the fact it was almost the same size & weight as my CCC. After all, how can anything that light be very strong?

Anyway, that was last week, and now I love the thing. Its far faster to manipulate than my Jags, and I haven't got to worry about it flying apart during one of my more daring manipulations. Plus the weehawk blade just looks so darned cool.

Also unlike my Jags I haven't needed to re-pin it as of yet, which is just as well really - I've no idea where I can get nails big enough to replace those torx pins....

Thanks everyone. I'll make sure not to pass harsh judgment on the weight issue until I've played with it for a good long while. And those pins better damn well hold because there is NO WAY I'm taking a hammer to something I spent THAT much on

you know what's weird is that there are days when the titanium feels heavy to me. but man, is it a sweet bali. when I first opened mine on christmas I was amazed by how light it was; I was afraid it'd fly away if I threw it

I have a few stab marks on my palm from my first 42 aerials.. yes it takes some getting used to but I guess you know that by now

I feel that the finger twirls are INSANE thogh it really spoils me and when I go back to my jaguars I get REAL SLOOOW when I pass the heavier bali thru my fingers

Ump-teen years ago I had the heavy as he!! Frost Dragon! Thru the years everything has gotten lighter and it seems that the 42 is the king of lite! However it is very well balanced. I still like the heavy models for a good knuckle workout but for speed the 42 is hard to beat.
