I just returned from my family vacation in the Smoky Mountains...and I stopped on the way home at SMKW...WOW...were you folks ever right, I could have spent an entire day there and still not seen it all. As it was...I had tired kids with me, and only got to touch a surface of the place.

Of course, I bought a few new knives...nothing too extravagant though. My favorite I purchased was a Buck X-Tract. I had recently read a review of this knife in a magazine, and it sounded like what I wanted...a one-handed opening multi-tool knife, with some basic things I need from day-to-day. The Buck X-Tract certainly delivered this. The knife blade, pliers/wire cutters, phillips head and straight edge screwdrivers, the can opener/awl, all opening and closing easily with one hand operation. I can see this becoming one of my favorite EDC's for sure.

Next year, when I return to the mountains, I plan on staying much longer at the SMKW and bringing more money! If you have never been there, I highly recommend it, just allow plenty of time to enjoy it all.

Smokey Mt. Knife Works is a good stop. Not many places like it. I often stop if I'm in the area and buy the inexpensive Vic kitchen knifes. I love them. Seem to always have 4 or 5 spares. That helps when my wife uses one for a screwdriver.

Did you hit the new Bass Pro store at the exit too?

I didn't...I simply ran out of time down there...so many things to do. I have been to the big Cabela's store in Wheeling though...it is an awesome place...but they are VERY lacking in the knife department unfortunately.
