I purchased a SR-1A a few weeks ago as a present to myself with an award/bonus I got and actually asked the retailer take the clip off before he sent it to me because I live in a knife-unfriendly-city (Washington, DC) so I carry inside my business-casual khaki pockets.

I loved it until I started to carry it and use it, daily, and then I started hating it a little bit. It was soooooo slippery that it always took several tries to open one-handed, particularly if I was in a hurry, and I constantly worried that I'd drop it and scratch it (or worse, lose it!).

I stopped carrying it for that reason and was going to come on this forum and suggest that Lionsteel offer some aftermarket way to make these things less slippery (checkering or some kind of textured sticker/tape).

Then, after carrying some other knives I have that I haven't carried for a while, trying them with and without clips, I realized that clips sometimes add grip for opening.

So... I put the clip back on the SR-1A and, sure enough, it's MUCH better. I can grab, hold and open it much, MUCH faster with the clip attached, even though I only carry it inside my pocket. So, if any of you are having this problem, I really suggest leaving the clip on. It helps a lot.

STILL...

I hope Lionsteel recognizes and will attempt to resolve this problem by offering some sort of solution for existing knives.

Just some suggestions.

Thanks.

Aftermarket checkering or griptape, maybe even very light sanding with a fine paper

I don't know if you mean them or me, but I don't want to tinker with such an expensive knife myself.

I was thinking of how Matt Cucchiara used to "fizz" factory knives, but he doesn't do that anymore.

I have two SR-1A and one SR-1 Titanium. The aluminum handles are colder, lighter and slippier than my titanium handle one.

The titanium one is more balanced as well.

I also recommend that you do not carry any other metallic objects in the same pocket that you carry your SR-1A since it'll get scratched and may lose some anodizing.

A wet bar of soap is how a good concealed handgun should feel. But I agree, not a one handed folder.

The description was even coined a few decades ago when the 1911's sharp edges were rounded making for that slippery "wet bar of soap" feeling.
