Hi Folks,

One of my favorite woods knives is the Crowell/Barker Competition Knife from Browning.
Carbon steel, 10" blade, convex grind, full tang, distal taper of both blade and tang, micarta handle slabs.

I am now looking for a "little brother" for this knife with similar specs, but in the 7" inch blade range. The Cold Steel Recon Scout comes close, but I have had one of these break right at the point where the tang meets the blade and would prefer a true full tang knife. Any ideas?

Actually a combination of the 1/4" stock on the BK2 tapering down to thin stock as on the BK5 on a 7" blade would be just what I'm looking for. Unfortunately you don't see any U.S. made blades of carbon steel with a distal taper anymore, so Ka-bar probably won't make it.

I like your taste. Sadly (or happily, depending on how one makes his living :D) properly tapered blades are pretty rare in production knives. Set a budget and talk to some custom makers. It wouldn't be difficult at all for a good maker to make a smaller match for your Browning.
