I use the like button more then I thought I would. Generally I am not a fan of "like" buttons. How about a "don't like " button?
Might cause some animosity but I would like to hear what others think.

I don't think anyone's made a don't like button, but I'd agree I would like that feature a lot . it gives me the option to not like a post without responding.

Facebook etc didn't implement it because they didn't want anyone to be negative. on a forum it's a better idea.

YouTube has thumbs down and redit have downvote. so its only natural to have a dislike button on the forum

I posted earlier that I like the like button and I was in a hurry. The main reason is I think mostly it's good for people to get that feeling that someone likes what ever has been posted by the poster. When I first joined bf, I was discouraged by the forum to comment in certain threads, like sale posts.I realize I could have commented in another way if I wanted to.(PM) Take for example the guy who is making some object (a knife) who has done alot of work to produce what he learned and labored over. Then he puts it up for sale. Then, a week goes by and another and eventually he reposts w/ reduced price. It's defeating personally to think "no one likes it" But now it's easy to simply hit like. People need to have things to boost confidence. One like out of 600 views is better than none.
Sometimes people may not have a good understanding of what is acceptable or not, and so they may post words that are inappropriate into a thread , thinking it's funny. When really it may be harmful. A simple "don't like" button could be useful to assist those "younger" persons who need to learn what is or is not nice to say.
Like buttons in the real world like in google or fb who are trying w/ much intention and a specific agenda are using those likes of ours in conjuction with all our combined online activity to produce algorithums that sell products and win presidencial elections that shape society world wide.
Everybody likes to get a like , and somebody deserves a don't like.

The problem with don't like buttons is let's say so eone makes an excellent informative post about Hitler? People sometimes lay hit "don't like" because they don't like hitler, even though they liked the information of the post.

Or let's say someone posts a heartfelt message of their pet dog dieing. Do you hit don't like or hit like.

Where's the Don't Like button for this post?

^ I really "like" your sig line, T:
